Vermote wins, Cummings puts himself in a great position the the GC.

Dan Martin 3rd at nearly a minute back. Gallopin and Swift there with him. Dennis and Roche lose a few more seconds.

Chapeau to Vermote! Nice stage to watch from the comfort of my desk. Wouldn't want to be riding out there today.

BTW, 4.8km at 8.2 per cent. That would make this a cat 3 or a cat 4 at the Vuelta?

KNew Poels wasn't up for this ...Roche rode well but for cramps and just back from serious illness but looks he will be SKY leader ....can maybe do well on Haytor ... But Dumoulin, Dennis, Cummings & Van Barle are going to do very well on TT and looks like Cummings has this

However still along way to go

Cav having a go at spectators !!!

what did the spectator do?

Not sure but the lad had the look on his face that he knew he'd been a d*ck and was trying to act cool. An older spectator just up from him gave the lad a really filthy look too so obviously did something wrong. Probably someone who's never been to a bike race before and wanted to get on tv as riders were going up a 15% section.

There are category 4 climbs in the Vuelta now?

A 4.2km climb at 8.5% was category 2 in the Vuelta a few days ago...

I meant cat three or cat two

Yep, and they did that one twice, even. There's also been 11.2 km @ 4.3% and a 6.2 km @ 6.5% cat threes. In any case, seriously now, The Struggle is likely a Vuelta two. Are the other four Cat 1 Climbs Vuelta threes?

Alot of pros sayig it was a very hard stage ...Tomorrow and Wednesday very hard also
Even Thursday is no slouch...And Friday is for climbers

Still not sure the spriners will get much out of this race , except Bristol & London ....ah well its training

I much prefer long climbs to rolling hills. In pro racing this bears out even more, inevitably on mountain stages there's a gruppeto being formed even more early on and the forty-odd guys remaining just do tempo until that last climb. Meanwhile on the rolling stuff much more of the guys are expected to stay on for most of the stage. If you're all alone at any point then it's really going to hurt.

The ToB seems like a great race for the puncheurs. Sprinters get the hard racing miles for a long WC.

Jeez, Etixx.
How many victories do they have this season? Added 4 the past 3 days alone...
