Alaphilippe is an interesting case. He sure missed the Ardennes and the Tour, but because of that he was in form for the Vuelta (got a stage) and also Il Lombardia where he got a second place. I don't know if he would have the same late season form if he raced during the summer. So it is hard to say that he can do better by a large margin.

I wonder how many people are going to go full genius with Valverde......

He was phenomenal last year before the crash and he has had plenty of time to train for his comeback. I initially made a team with him, but 1828 points for an old guy coming back from a bad crash is just an unacceptable risk even for Papi Imbatido.

Moscon is also a risky pick in my opinion. He could explode in terms of points, but he could also be a slightly improved version of Benoot and be a somewhat mediocre pick imo.

Team submitted, ended with 33 riders at 7496 points. Had most of the team finished for a long time but the last 5-7 riders was very open and I am still quite unsure about those, especially chosing the last 2 or 3 riders between several 400-900 points candidates, and finishing the puzzle with a few cheaper riders besides those was quite difficult.

Ended up like this (without revealing too much):

1000+ : 1
501-1000 : 3
301-500: 4
101-300: 14
0-100: 11

Most popular countries: Italy and France with 5 riders each

I have no clue whether my team will be good or not. At least without obvious 100% must have expensive picks the teams will be very diverse, which is always nice.

Also, something which I'd like to point out, even though it doesn't really bother me; if you post all those stats about your team, people can figure out some of the riders you picked or at least come to an educated guess about it. Considering we don't discuss picks in this thread, it might be possible to construe sharing those stats as problematic. Again, I'm personally not bothered by it, but you should be (and probably are) aware that people read this thread and try to deduce whatever they can from those stats to point them to potentially good picks they might have missed. For instance, if you don't have that many Italian and then you read this thread, you're going to double check to see if you didn't miss any Italian picks, aren't you? (At least I would, but I already had eight of them ;))

I totally agree and I also find it disturbing because between the points, country, and team, it is fairly easy to figure out the team. It's pretty much like posting the rider's initials.

It should not be allowed!

For once I agree with Jancouver.... :)

I get that we all are eager to get started and reveal our teams and thoughts, but it would be better to avoid spoilers before deadline.

There's interesting discussions going on,but I'll refrain from sharing my thoughts until tomorrow.

Agreed with you guys, and sorry about that. But at the end of the day, it's not like there was a perfect team. Even with a great combination, I mean that this is the season that will decide everything.

Can't we ban all team-related discussion before the deadline next year? I get why people are excited, but I feel like it's much more fun to wait for the reveal. I also prefer composing my team completely on my own, and I do admit it's annoying to know that some people will only think of a rider because he/his nation was mentioned somewhere in the thread.

I never thought the statistics part could influence anyone's decision-making (after all, it's been a part of the conversation in the thread since the earliest editions and I don't recall any complaints about it before), but I acknowledge that it is indeed an issue if some would revise their teams because of that, so yeah it's probably better to not share those until after the reveal. I'm completely on line with those stating that name-dropping shouldn't be allowed until after the reveal as well.

I went with 2 1000+ guys and I'm wondering if that will be very rare for this edition... I am also very curious how rare a certain Italian rider will be.(he is my third most expensive guy) Can't wait for the team reveal!

I think the certain Italian will be on 40 - 60 % of the teams.
This will be again a long night, can't wait.

I'm with NairoQ, I did my team pretty early. Some riders I strongly considered but didn't pick will be on many teams according to the stats posted here and velorooms. Also I didn't pick many of the cheap Italians as I personally like some other riders better who are probably not so good picks. But then I only hope for a top 50. :)

Actually, I had too little time to think about a team before New Year, and I didn't want to make a mediocre one, so you'll have to wait a year to see my next team ;)

I'm suspecting that fermi tried to do an Ospina by planting Porte's name though. Damn, I miss Ryo.

You are correct, but it used to be just points brackets. Then some guys just posted nationalities.

Then, they started to post points, nationalities, teams, age brackets etc all in one post,

C'mon guys, we are not little kids that can't wait one day for Santa :D

I don't mind the previews. If someone needs to look at the nationalities of other teams to discover an obvious pick, they won't win the game anyway.
Agree. I look at other people's statistics out of interest to see how they compare to mine, but I would never revise my team because of it. I get why if you have 0 Italians and see everyone has 10, you'd go back to check, but as you say if they'd overlooked that many they'll have overlooked others.
Have to say though that each year, there are two or three riders in my team of whom I think "oi, if I post their nationality they'll be super easy to guess".

On the flipside, I'm delighted to note that a few of my picks are not in any of the 'teased' teams, based on nationalities/team.

Stop it guys. We still haven't reached the deadline and you are already openly discussing which riders you took. It's really not the point of the game that everyone changes his team on the last day because he can read everywhere which riders he missed
My understanding of the rules is that you can only change your team after the submisison deadline if skidmark finds an error (like the team being over 7.500 points). Is that not so?
