The 2024 CQ Ranking Manager Thread

Page 72 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
My selections are going from bad to worse. Demare can't even get over the smallest hill in Tour de Suisse, TaoGH keeps falling, Leknessund has become a domestique and Mauro Schmid is now king of the failed attack.

My clever plan was to pick guys who were moving team and who (obviously) were going to get more opportunities to perform. The alternative reality is that the reason they were moving teams is that they weren't all that great, but I chose not to believe that.

But so far my big picks have been a disaster
- Demare was meant to drop down and clean up the French Cup races
- Schmid was to show he was a one day star after being wasted at QS
- Welsford, Ewan and Jakobsen were going to win sprints
- Leknessund was going to be a leader at UnoX

And I decided TaoGH and Hayter were going to have great years along with Matis Louvel and Max Poole.

I don't think I could have wasted my picks more if I had tried!

Update #21: Unique picks rule the week

The Dauphiné duel between Roglic and Jorgenson on the road was mirrored in CQ land with both being unique picks this year and deciding the top two of this update.

Kingcycling like their team leader Roglic just about hang on to their win despite a late surge by the Jorgenson and Rodriguez-led firefly3323's squad. Shakes takes third thanks to monster Rodriguez and Herregodts (another unique pick) weeks.

Nevs is fourth in large part due to their unique pick Derek Gee. In fifth, Nbfc1962 almost joins the unique pick party with Vlasov (selected twice).

With another low scoring week, nobody got a huge boost up the rankings. Earns1985 stands out considering how high up their team already was, going from 14th to 8th thanks to Rodriguez, Teuns, Meintjes and Del Toro.

Finally shalgo's lead starts going the other way. EITB (thanks to Rodriguez) shaves 130 points off the gap which sounds impressive until you realize his team would basically need to maintain that pace every week until the end of the Vuelta just to get back on level terms. Skidmark and adamski101 also have Rodriguez on their team and that has helped them slowly inch away from the teams ranked fifth and lower. As mentioned earlier Earns1985 enters the top 10. Unfortunately that means someone has to leave and that is DJ Sprtsch.

I feel you...

If I look at my team it is not that worse at all but being ranked 37th is hard.

Have great picks in Martinez (+480), Tiberi (+220), Arensman (+180), Nys (+70 and more to come), Ayuso (+80 and more to come), Laurance (+160), Van Uden (+140), Hirt (+260), Consonni (+110), Ryan (+180), Quintana (+90) and a lot of guys which are near last years points like Onley, Sheehan, Lecerf, Mihkels, Jegat, Steimle, Canal Blanco, Busatto, August, B. Thomas, Garcia Pierna and Carapaz (-100 till now but should be on par to be an ok pick at the end of the year)...

Doesnt sound so bad but I invested more than 500 points in Gloag, Louvel and Padun who scored exactly zero points together till now. And I have Uijtdebroeks (-400) and also Geoghegan Hart (-570) while missing out on Del Toro, Morgado, Cosnefroy, Capiot and Bernal. Those ten names are the ones that really hurt in the end. Just 2-3 better decisions at those guys and top 10 would surely be possible.

Had there been a correction from CQ Ranking for a rider?
Some players have -6 points since last sunday and EvansIsTheBest should have 45 points because of his points from Nys, but also just has 39.
Should be a pretty popular pick, that has been corrected, because various players are affected by this...

Edit: Should be Paul Magnier, which points have been corrected.

If guys like Riccitello start getting top 10s in WT races, shalgo can start working on their acceptance speech.

It's almost as if I shouldn't have spent 1626 points on Uijtedebroeks, Sheffield, Gloag and Hagenes to compete with their team. Considering I don't have any good rare picks, in fact they are all bad (Vergalitto, Bruttomesso, Vuillermoz and Pollefliet are the only riders on my team that have been picked less than 10 times), I'm always amazed I'm in second place. Not that I'm complaining obviously.

* Say you have a unique pick that costed 200 and scored 800 points when everybody else went for another rider that you don't have and that costed 200 and scored 800 points also. Does it matter that your rider has a different name if it ends up canceling out the obvious pick. Do you get more credit for finding the overlooked gem or do should you get dinged for missing the easy pick ?
Fair point. Even if we looked at the hypothetical of which of those two picks, if taken as a 34th rider, would be better there would still be no functional difference.

Foss losing 14 minutes in a stage won by Bauhaus. Why didn't I just go with Riccitello instead?
Well I have both, so all in all a good day today!
Already thought that Riccitello wouldn't breakthrough this season anymore, but today was awesome!
About Foss, well after his stage win in the Tour of the Alpes he is just awful. Hope, that he will at least score a few points in the big time trials, which are still to come, that he will give us at least a bit of profit...

@Shakes:
I really like your work, that you did with the page. I use it a lot.
I have a small suggestion for an adaption request.
In the tab "Random stats", there is a section "most popular riders", which only lists the 25 most popular riders until now.
Is there a possibility, that you can add a list with all riders and the information how many players picked them and additionally (how it is already now), when you click on them you see also which players picked them?
For me this information would be great, because when I follow a race, it´s somtimes good to know, how many other players have them, to know if I should cheer for him or not.
For me it´s right now more or less the only time, when I still use the Excel Spreadsheet.

In the section "most popular riders" there also seems to be a small bug, since we only have 94 teams and the section says, that 105 players picked Quintana..

Not really looking forward to the next update as I only have Uijtdebroeks!
I need Cosnefroy and Narvaez to win, or top three, to keep my spot in the rankings.
Biniam to win the Eritrean NC would be nice as well.
While I would be happy if none of those things happened. :D

I'm a bit jealous while looking at Giro riders actually performing post-Giro, like Pellizzari, Aleotti, Merlier, Sanchez and Narvaez. While my guys are DNF (Foss), DNF (Tiberi), crash (Piganzoli) and fractured hand (Quintana).

That I can do! Just same list with just selecting top 25.

Think problem of Quintana, and others, is Giro game I had added. Just need to add a condition to fix this. Will have a look soon (apologies, haven't looked at this for a while).
