This thread sucks and I probably shouldn't contribute and keep it on page 1. So I'll just hijack it a little and say that Cervelo's win tally for a 1st year team is pretty impressive and worthy of comment. Nice win by Thor today too, good to see some teams mucking with Columbia's train, albeit probably an exhausted train.

Maybe Astana isn't dominating every race, but what are the races that matters the most? : The three Grand Tours, The fact is Astana has won 3 GC's since 08, so obviously their one of the most succesful teams.

Yes, Colombia has an enourmous amount of victories, but there is a difference between a Cav stage win in Missouri, and Contador winning the tour.

Also that list of victories doesn't show a right picture, teams like boygues telecom get most of their wins in smaller french races. Astana participates almost only in the biggest races, and get's most of their wins there.

let me just start by saying i like berto , big fan , maybe you should have said Alberto Contador is the most dominant stage racer........not much argument.

but to diminish 6 stage victories and wins by i think the numb is 15 different riders and close to 80 victories this year , including classics , tour stages , 1 day races , 1 wk stage races ,.......... is ludicrous

common you have to look at cycling as a whole , its not just the big race in france..........astana had a formidable tour team , but to say they are the most dominate team in cicling...........i dont think so

Okay... so everyone is beating the crap out of the OP on this very subjective issue. Yes Columbia High Road has more wins... No you can't directly compare them. Yes the Classics are huge in Europe. Yes the GT's steal all the international press.

So, who has been, in your humble opinion's, is a more dominant Stage Race team than Astana? Who has been the most dominant Classics team?

What consitutes "dominance" is the only subject up for debate. Results dictate who have been the best. Astana dictate the period, though, which automatically adds an element of bias.

However, off the top of my head, so I may be wrong. ICBB to check.

2006:Astana 1GT win*, 1 podium*. (Caisse/CSC 1 win, 1 podium)
2007:Astana 1 podium* (Disco 1 win, 1 podium Rabo/Liqui 1 win, CSC 2 podiums)
2008:Astana 2 wins 1 podium (no duplicates)
2009:Astana 1 win 1 podium (? Rabo 1/2 win/s/1 podium, Saxo 2 podiums)
*discredited (dope cheat) rider

Point is, maybe the word consistent is more accurate than dominant.

Outside the tour, Rabo have had a good year in the GTs
