Hugh Porter really has no idea about WT cycling, he was too busy blabbering on about Ed Clancy and Kristian House being sprint contenders, no idea.

This shows once again that Greipel is beatable when he hasn't a huge train to support him. i wonder how good Viviani could be if he had a real train riding for him.

Pretty good if Dubai is anything to go by.

Viviani is probably the 5th or 6th best sprinter in the world at his best IMO, behind Greipel, Kittel, Cav and Sagan, on par with Matthews, Ewan, Bouhanni and maybe even Degenkolb after an easy stage. Although the gap between him and CAv is closing fast and also Grepel, so maybe is challenging for 4th in the world.

Hopefully after the Olympics and next season he will leave Sky for a team to suit him (Trek, Lampre?).

I'd say he's better than Matthews Ewan and Degenkolb, and slightly worse than Bouhanni based on the Giro

Cavendush tries to block Greipel he must looked back 4 times to see his position, then is passed by Viviani

Ewan?? Easy, pal. Kid has got a bright future but has got 1 WT win against a weak sprint field. To name him amongst the 7-8 out best sprinters in the world is a bit over the top.

Matthews is nowhere near Bouhanni or even Viviani in a flat sprint, Degenkolb neither as of this year.

The sprint finishes in the ToB are often a bit idiosyncratic, not like the big long straight boulevard finishes of many continental races so a bit of luck is needed to be in the right place at the right time, like Viviani had today. If cav hadnt drifted right to block griepel no way he would have won. Was uphill as well which is not good for griepel and he probably isnt in top shape

So this season viv could be the 4th. Greipel, Kristoff, Cav, viv

If we assume everyone is at their best its be kittel, Greipel, Kristoff, Cav, Viv

To say greipel needs a massive leadout to win is a bit silly, he destroyed Cavendish in the tour

I don't think Viviani has separated himself from the Bouhanni, Sagan, etc...group.

He has four wins this year. At two of them, Eneco and Giro, Greipel was the only rider mentioned above and it was otherwise a fairly weak field. in Dubai and now Britain he beat Cavendish with Degenkolb/Greipel a little way behind. He has some decent scalps sure but I don't see the evidence for him being in the top tier on the basis of this season.

Hofland abandoned this morning. I did wonder why he didn't feature in the sprint yesterday.

8 riders up front including Poels, Peters, Vokoc, Pauwels, ligthart, Fernandez, Wyss and Bettiol.

40s clear of another group of 30 or so.

Vakoc now out on his own, rest of the front group back in the peloton. Greipel has made it over the hills with Swift, Eddy Boss and Gaviria.
