09 was a terrible course.
not at all a good indication of good climbers. I mean yes Schleck did well, but he isn't consistancty better then the other 2nd tier guys (after as and ac).

We will see but I bet he would have have been on the podium at last years Tour if he hadn't crashed. I also think Andy rode better against Contador in his absence, I mean both brothers are brilliant climbers individually, but as we saw at LBL this year, the two of them together are more likely to screw things up for each other.

I also always like to point to the Tour de Suisse 2008 where Anton got dropped by such climbing talent as Stijn Devolder among others

I believe he was in the "Andy Schleck" phase of his training/preparation program.;)

With Frank's abysmal efforts versus the clock it's highly doubtful he would've knocked Menchov off the podium and probably not even finished ahead of Samu.

Yeah that was too bad, he forgot to eat and drink and got a hunger knock

You don't want to get into it regarding F. Schleck ... we've had many a heated discussion regarding his place among the top climbers

But I agree that Brajkovic's performance was outstanding, I'd like to see more of that in the TdF this year

Are you Danish btw? I bet if Frank S. was british/anglo he would be considered a god on this forum. I am really surprised though that none of the multiple RS fanboys rate Brajkovic

I wouldn't have mattered if he had been able to follow AS and AC to some degree in the mountains. Menchov and Samuel failed considerably in this aspect.

multiple RS fanboys? are you sure you are on the right forum? :p

janez is yet to prove anything over 3 weeks. he beat a contador at like 60% as contador wasn't even at 100% for the tour anyway.

I just hope that in the Tour Gesink doesnt get some huge ttt advantage, then hang on in the next 3 weeks, beat a few people in the itt to get a podium which he wouldnt have got close too without the ttt, and have all the fanboys declare how good he is.

We already had to put up with that in TA :p

I think instead of squabbling for minor places we could instead do something a bit like this:

1. Albert
2. Andrew
-------------------
3. More explosive type riders - Anton, Valverde, Rodriguez etc
4. More diesel type riders - Menchov, Evans, Basso, Samu etc

Samu is very explosive. Hes the only guy Valverde is afraid of on Valverde finishes.

Watch him put seconds into the others on a short finish in GP Mig this year.

Name one rider who has done better than him in the mountains at cyclings main event (TDF) besides AC and AS in the last two years? (I know he crashed last year)

Igor Anton is the only one to have dropped Contador on a climb since 2007(or longer).

honger knock in 2009 not counted and also not counting losing a sprint up a mtf.

The thread below about who will be the RS leader suggests there are indeed multiple admirers if not fanboys.

Anyway he has shown potential so I wouldn't write him off.

Are you talking about his recent win? If so I think you're forgetting what his DS said after the win

Are you kidding. Anglo riders are the most hated riders on this forum. People like Cav and Wiggins can get huge hate threads just by opening their mouth. We hate guys like Ligget because they say Richie Porte will beat real gt riders purely because hes english.

Italians, spaniards, Vino, are most liked.

Are you forgetting about team Sky and riders like Thomas?

I think Porte is a huge talent but it looks like patience is needed. Still, we will only know his true potential at the Tour, as he is peaking for that.

Rafal Majka is showing some talent as well at ToC.

Assuming you mean Geraint, people like him at the moment, but dont worry, as soon as he starts winning their will be plenty of Geraint Thomas hate threads.

If you are talking about Thomas Lofkvist then, Id have him in the top 30. can climb, but yet to show that he can climb with the better climbers.

I meant Geraint but then I am also thinking about threads in the clinic to be fair.

To get back on topic I can't wait for this years Tour, especially if both Contador and Gilbert are there to go for the win against the Schleck brothers, Basso and Brajkovic. I have never seen Gilbert on a long climb so I don't know what to expect.

Anyway, I will probably only be posting from work from now on since I get paid for mostly doing nothing, cheers.

Gilbert will be chasing stage wins. He isn't considered a stage racer and definitely not a grand tour gc contender.
