Cycling News Forum commenter’s have some colourful names and “Botany Bay” sounds like an Australian and had an interesting encounter with Gino B.

I did have an interesting meeting with Gino. But I'm not Australian. Never been there. My BotanyBay handle is a StarTrek reference (which in turn, is a "Mutiny on the Bounty" reference).

I am sure you are a wonderful guy.....but that rambling blog makes little sense.

Could you distill your concerns about the forum down to a sentence or two that could be addressed here?.......or do you prefer to only lob insults from the sidelines so you cannot be questioned?

And moderate comments on the blog...

Think about it. I don't even have a blog, let alone many blogs.

He also pokes fun at our anonymity, which is curious, as his many blogs are also anonymous.

Guys and Gals, give him credit. We are the subject of a thread hijack on one of the best threads in the forum!

Pick a Skippy blog. Apparently one's not enough.

And he has never experienced so many hits.

Skippy,

My first reaction to you taking your toys and going home was 'if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen'.

I am sorry that you felt pressured to read 37 pages of posting. I mean, why not just jump in and shoot, look, aim?

Before writing this post, I read all 1,860 words in your blog post. So, we should read your lengthy ramblings expressing contempt for something that you haven't even bothered to read? Sure, that makes sense.

How can you possibly be surprised at criticism when you haven't even bothered to 'read up' on what is going on? So now you are going to rat on us on your blog? Seems a bit childish, doesn't it? Especially when your profile blog has had all of 1003 visits.

Not like you are mainstream and present any sort of reader competition for 'The Clinic'.

As suggested, you really should get Adwords going to take advantage of this fifteen minutes of basking in stolen 'Clinic' spotlight. Like your hero said, run like you stole something. You have stolen attention, why not get your 2 cents?

Unlike you, I only ask that people judge me by the words I post here. Who I am isn't important. I am simply another anonymous poster, and don't expect nor ask for any special attention.

If I have something to say to the community, I will say it in the community.

Why do you have a problem with that concept?

Dave.

I find it interesting that Skippy linked to one of his many blogs (one that appears to be about assisting disabled riders to ride the TdF route and soliciting helpers), from here but another one altogether (standard 'personal' blog of sorts), when he went onto FatCyclist.com and linked to this thread.

I also think it interesting that it's also clear from the comments beneaths Eldens mention of this thread that a number of his readers have had concerns regarding this situation for some time.

Anyway, back on topic:

If you want to come on and defend Lance / Livestrong / whomever your best bet is to do some research, ask questions and offer some evidence of your position. It's what we're doing here. We're not slinging mud, we're putting evidence together and discussing it rationally. Calling us vitriolic or accusing us of wanting to knock down 'tall poppies' for personal gain is not going to make anyone change their minds and suddenly see things your way.

You want to know what would really help? Find us an example of real world help that has been given by Livestrong or Lance. And I don't mean an encouraging message or a folder with readily available information neatly branded and printed, I mean an example of them really reaching out and helping someone directly. Please, if you can find that I would love to see it because I'd like to think that there is much more than the evidence suggests there is to this whole situation.

You do, huh.

Okay.

Well then, it appears that Skippy has met his match.

After reading postings in other blogs Skippy has written (and his latest comments over on 'fatcyclist.com') I'm sure he'd feel he could TEACH a 500 Level course, in his spare time, while finishing up three concurrent PhD theses on the different aspects of his opinion of himself.

As I mentioned before activists and opinions like this were a part of the reason I no longer work with the LAF (and a few of other NPOs dealing with critical illness).

A couple of helpful starting points..google Lance Armstrong visits hospital..start picking through those posts..ample examples of him giving person to person..next google search..LA donates..man you will be reading all day..just the free helmets and bikes he gave away in Dallas would make your tax man jump for joy... http://www.wellsphere.com the one about Lance and the SF Mayor is heartwarming. Armstrong also talks w his checkbook..he gave a bike to Robin Williams at the end of a ride and walked home..that is pretty personal

I did what you asked. I see a donations coming from the foundation, not from Armstrong's checkbook. But I see him boldly using PR tactics to gain personal credit for the benevolence of his donors.

And actually, by directing LAF to donate any money to Haiti, he was violating the purpose of the LAF's stated mission (Cancer Awareness). Not that Haitian earthquake relief is not a worthy cause (it is).

Let's see where LANCE pulls out his OWN checkbook and stops using the LAF funds to cover the cost of his good deeds.

I (sadly) did the same and searched using the terms provided.

Lots of hits on 'hospital vists' but they appeared to be a lot of rehashing of the same 2 hospitals LA visited on Sept in NY & SF.
I had to go back to 2004 before I found another.

Putting in "donate", brought me to the LAF, the Haiti donation and a donation to the UCI!

One visit was just last month *to see his Bromance's new kid after being born). But hey, Kate Hudson visited too. Maybe Haven Parchinski joined them in the hot tub at the Chateau Marmont!

Giving what? An inspirational visit? A soundbite? A pat on the shoulder and telling them to 'Livestrong' ™ ® © ?

Bikes & helmets from Trek. Not from Lance.

You mean this visit? http://tinyurl.com/372dbut hardly heartwarming.

Yes, because a bike that was given to Lance by a sponsor and given to another celebrity who could well afford his own is the very definition of giving to a needy cause from your own pocket.

Google "Professional PR firm telling Lance what to do and when to do it, and full-time staff assigned to carry it out." Oh wait, that's probably not disclosed.

There is a nutkick button on my laptop..ouch..everytime I look up I get smeared with bromance sauce and a Botany beat down. Lance is like the rest..rockstars,actors, athletes..give them money with the brain of a 18-21 yo and they make mistakes. Maintain hatestate 10 waiting for Lance to stumble is just to much for me..the guy is doing the best he can with what he's got..I hope one of you clods types in that Lance should go down and turn himself in to Novitzky." I am glad you only found out about the bikes and the EPO..I was also filling disc wheels with coke!! Take all my money..my kids can get free Nikes so they won't want for shoes or yellow tshirts..I just want to go back to Texas"..the PR firm will probably suggest this to him. Lance probably texts one of his mistresses while his kids open their Christmas gifts..just wishing it would be over..he tells kids in hospital beds not to touch him because of the germs..this guy makes Hitler look like Mr.Rogers..pure evil..I am wrong..go ahead Botany I just put my cup on...

What I adore most about FitandFast is the fact that instead of responding to a resonable request for a balanced counterpoint (and expansion on his examples in defence of Lance) he goes off on one accusing us of being unreasonable in possibly the longest single line post EVER.

*slow clap*

We salute you, Sir.
