It is simple. It is about money, nothing else. A venge is not that much better than a dogma, maybe 0.01% and no rider is gonna be stupid enough to not sign because of a bike. He got new agents and they are asserting their power to justify their % and playing the 'bounce teams of each other' trying to get a bidding war going.

It also benefits Cav to keep his name in the papers and it also benefits his current sponsors, so it is a game that is being milked for all its worth.

If it was between Brailsford and Cavendish it would be sorted already.Unfortunately agents are involved,a pix on the sport and every sport.

Cav always looked pretty good on the Scott before Specialized came along...

Maybe it's being drawn out so HTC can have a bit of the glory of having the World Champion ride for them? Although TSF seems to be on the money.

I don't think anyone has really claimed it is about the bike itself. It's about sponsorship contracts surrounding the bike (and sports clothing). Of course it's about money. Cavendish, the greatest hero of British cycling, is in his Olympic year next. It's his year to earn sponsor deal. He wants the freedom to have personal sponsors and blame him for that. The same goes for Sky('s sponsors), they want to portrait Cavendish as well.

It's about money and it's about loyalty. Cavendish has contracts, he wants to honour them. The latter might be important in his future too, would you want to make a deal with someone who shoves deals aside like nothing? Even if he's legally able to do so, it's not the reputation you want. Even if he now gives in at the end, everyone knows he tried and he fought for his deals. And that might mean something in the future.

I would have thought that would have been Hoy or this guy

Sorry Hawkwood i will confess it is a cheap shot :)

A (big) mates just got a Secteur and in XL they look pretty decent - that doesn't stop me taking the **** though as even if overall design puts the bars in the same place that headtube just looks wierd - especially in my shortarse size.

Its the same on the recent tarmacs - headtube looks wrong - but I've ridden an SL3 and I admit it is very nice, light stiff and everything is in a proper racey position.

I still think it's all a load of PR guff though and it makes me think even more they are a big business and behave as such.

Give Cav, Terry Dolan and Chris Boardman some time together and they will make him a pretty special set of wheels I'm sure.

The short seat-tube on compacts makes the head-tube look massive. With old school frames this wasn't so much of an issue. With my Secteur I could easily set it up with a saddle/bar drop of 12 cms, and the reach would be enormous.

I agree re the `PR guff'. Read a Boardman article once on how he went to Terry for a frame, and the latter uses some sort of Scouse dialect that consists 100% of swear words!

What a tiresome soap this has become. It 's all starting to feel a little 'CavSkyesque' to me.

Had to slip that one in.

C'mon guys. That stroke of genius deserved at least one shout.

I'm taking that with a grain of salt, i can understand how Cav is feeling if Renshaw didn't tell him but i'm pretty sure Renshaw would've said something to him about it. Seems a bit weird to me

Saying that, after the way Renshaw has sacrificed himself for Cav I don't think it's really fair for him to make those comments

I honestly don't believe that this is a case of Cav holding out for more money, because he will be paid what ever he likes where ever he goes, as he is the most marketable rider in the peloton by far.
As for the Specialized/Pinarello issue, if Specialized are so desperate to have the Rainbows winning races on their bike next year then I'm sure with size of their company they could happily buy out Pinarello's contract with sky.
I feel the biggest issue is with Nike and Adidas, as every picture of Cav with his hands in the air next year will show the Adidas three stripe brand in much clear detail than the Nike Swoosh on Cav's shoes. However in a sport such as football this happens all the time. Messi is pictured continually with the Nike swoosh over his chest yet he is an Adidas sponsored athlete.
The answer to this problem is for Cav to have a special jersey. Fortunately this can be done with his new Rainbow Jersey forgoing the Three Stripes on the sleeves and have minimal Adidas branding.

+1. Written by a journalist and meddled with by an editor.

Go there again and now the headline reads "Cavendish disappointed with Renshaw move" (my emphasis). They don't even have the spine to stand by their original published article. The way Cavendish is quoted is done in such a staccato fashion as to make the editing really obvious.

This is an interesting read

Considering half of the people on those lists are from American sports and sports only watched by Americans I doubt this list refers to the most marketable athlete in the WORLD. I haven't heard of most names ever in my life.

If you've not heard of the top ten (with the exception of Anthony) then you're having a laugh.

And lets remember the biggest contracts offered in sport go to baseball players which is a very good indicator of why so many appear high up these lists.

Top 10 I can agree with, but some of these other names in the top 30 and top 20 I have never heard of in my life. If this is about contracts, well Cav isn't the best earning cyclist by a long shot. Not with his old contract and most likely not with his new contract.

And I don't have a clue who Mahendra Singh Dhoni is(and Anthony as you said).

Commonly known as M.S. Dhoni, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is an Indian Wicketkeeper in the sport, cricket (I assume you have heard of cricket).

OK out of the top ten I've never heard of LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and although Caroline Wozniacki rings a bell I couldn't tell you what her sport is. Of the rest I don't think that I've heard of anybody who comes below Cav (although I've only skimmed it). But the thing is if you're not particularly interested in a sport then you're not likely to know who people are unless they get a lot of coverage in your national media. So for example, I'm not interested in tennis, but I know who Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal are because tennis is popular and I see their names in the sports pages and on TV. Ditto Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo. I have a vague knowledge of Formula One drivers because OH follows it.

I've no interest in American Football, baseball, cricket or basketball and I don't see a lot of reporting in the press or on TV - I'd have to seek it out (bit like cycling) and because I'm not interested I don't bother. So it's unlikely that I'd know who the current stars are.
