BPC posts on this thread that his posts were marginally against rules? Memory is short, and Bro advocating for his return is meant for mayhem only. Check his posting history on the subject if you can. He was clearly on the side of permaban before, but now that he carries Armstrong's water bottles, he has a change of heart.

Where has all the banning led us? A dull forum where any opinion that does not match the groupthink is shouted down.

The only thing I will admit is I probably was a bit OTT on coming back to finish a point, but the forum was like the wild west back then. There was pretty much no restrictions at all on anybody but me. Those days have long gone. For example, you're called out for lying almost every day now. It's a different world. The forum was corrupt to the core back then....I consider them the Verbruggen years.

I don't really have time to post a lot but I welcome the idea of lifting bannings in the spirit of truth and reconciliation. The problem is, some people think its still business as usual. It's going to be hard for them to change their culture.

You're one of the few truth tellers left around here, willing to stand your ground in the face of some terrible lying and intimidation. We of course don't agree on a lot of things, but even Lance says you're posts are spot on recently. ...Handing out perm bans for general trolling (as opposed to racist, spam etc) is IMO just an easy option for Mods. It is not moderating, its getting rid of a problem.

No it didn't happen just yesterday, because it wasn't "general" or garden variety trolling". It was an orchestrated concerted effort at derailing the Sky thread with rehashing circular argument with an account set up for solely that purpose.

That it was also a sockpuppet account is immaterial to the reason for the ban.

When was the last time a "normal" member (with all due regard to DrMas prior post) with a posting history of genuine discussion (and all the other gumpf we are all occasionally guilty of) over a variety of threads was permabanned for trolling? I can't remember it ever happening, could be wrong though.

Most BPC bans aren't mentioned. In fact most sock puppet bans (and spam bans) aren't mentioned there.
