If they have him focus one hilly one day races and short stage races + stagehunting in one GT they can get a lot out of him.
Give him a schedule similar to prime Rui Costa and you should get value for money.
Ya, he should be riding things like the french cup races. Get a full De Lie/Cosnefroy season.

Soudal will implode if this happens. I think Remco should go if he had the opportunity.

Astana (or any WT team relegated to pro-conti) will buy Soudal's WT license. there will be one more spot for wild cards. so Total, Uno-X, Tudor, even Q36.5 will breath a sigh of relief

Ah yeah sure, and what is gonna happen with the 26 other contracts that Soudal has right now? Completely unrealistic this. Quick Step isn't folding if Remco leaves.

Only thing Red Bull could offer Remco right now is more money.
QS was better in the Tour, but they do need a better version for Moscon for the future.
Furthermore, Landa might actually have the strongest team around him in this Vuelta, making it two GTs where QS is better.
Take into account that guys like Vansevenant, Van Wilder en Lecerf themselves are eligible in the young riders classification. QS is actually sitting on the better future domestiques aswell.
I really hope Pizza Hut keeps him at QS. He's already their Belgian ambassador, they could make him into their biggest billboard for the whole of Europe.

Long term Bora is obviously better of course, they have no limit on their budget. There will be 2 top teams in 2 years time. UAE en Bora. The will be able to give Remco whatever they want.

Anyways. Remco needs to choose, this BS every year is just bad for everyone at QS. And it's annoying. Either stay (and say it publicaly that you will till the end of 2026) or leave and let the team move on.

You can't really blame the guy for trying to do better for himself. It's exactly what Lefevere is trying to do on the opposite side and that's why we have this situation every year. Remco feels he is being underpaid (in my opinion rightfully so). If this whole team depends on him, if he really is so important that they might implode without him, then perhaps he shouldn't be paid as much as Adam Yates...

If he dedicated completely to staying till the end of 2026, then that's what it is for him. No chance for promotion, either from within the team or by moving elsewhere...

From my perspective, that's a decision for QS to make. If QS believes the annual mating dance isn't worth the trouble, QS can engineer a lucrative exit from the contract. I don't blame Remco for pushing for his worth. It's up to the teams to evaluate whether he is worth the hassle - because he clearly is.

surely not folding for next year. maybe they ride the last season of the 3 year WT cycle (2025) then sell the license to the highest bidder. be it Astana, Cofidis, or whoever is in danger of relegation on Dec 31st 2025

At least there'll be some competition for UAE as to who to dislike the most soon.

So you dislike teams who try to win? Means you hated Visma last year, this year UAE and eventually if RedBull has success you hate them?
He said dislike, hate is far too strong a word, and yeah all the best riders converging around one or two rich superteams is bad for the sport, ergo dislikeable.

Besides, have you ever seen a Widar interview? I mean I welcome smack talk from riders myself, better that than platitudes, and I'm really looking forward to seeing him, but objectively the guys an arsehole.

True , agree there is a difference between hate and dislike.
I just never understood why to dislike the teams who win. It’s the same in every sport…the more money the better infrastructure…better results. Same in cycling. Reg. two rich superteams…I see it differently according to this chart. With Red Bull they said to have a budget around 45 million.
So I see around 5 really competitive teams…why do we talk about two rich teams? In addition Astana will have stupid money in the future so I see them up there as well.

Regarding Widar: never read anything from him. Maybe he is arrogant…cannot judge it but he’s 18 and people telling you that you’re a superkid since years…how do you stay normal?

What a slap in Davitamon Lotto's face. My god, that one gotta hurt a ton. I wonder how Samamba feels about that one. At least they still ahve some promsing and exicting prospect, but Jarno would kinda make that team complete in all terrains with up and coming riders
