This is a surprise to me, as his contract ran out 2026 with Visma. Not had a good season, but it's not been a complete car crash so I'm surprise Visma is giving up on him already. I'm always a bit "meh" about foreign riders chosing French teams, probably I have bought into the view that French teams are a bit old fashion and behind on many things, but Ag2r have been good this year.

One can also say that this maybe was a missed opportunity for Uno-X, but there have been quite a few negative comments from Staune-Mittet and his father towards Uno-X ever since he decided to go with Jumbo.

Given the risk that UNO X won't be able to ride a GT nest year (and even if they get a Tour WC the spots are limited) I think even without bad blood it would be bad for his development to go to UNO X. He will be 23 next year, he is supposed to be a GC/GT rider, it's time he rides one.

Also french teams are/were behind cause they simply didn't/don't have the money. It's no rocket science. AG2R now has the money thanks to Decathlon and it makes a huge difference. Only the language barrier I would be scared off for Staune Mittet. OConnor still struggles with it a bit.

Let's see if de Gendt gets on board as well.
There's no way. He'll retire, get bored and embark on a ridiculous project.
Either he's going to do the "Hel of Kasterlee", turn into a bio-farmer or he'll end up becoming a bodybuilder just out of boredom. He wouldn't be the first.

Or follow in the footsteps of a former legendary Italian rider (Andrea Piccolo)?

If he was doing Only Fans, it would probably be a case of him riding across the world on a bike like this:

in spring, de Gendt said himself that he would like to join the Asia tour, as it would be interesting to explore new countries and races, and his friend Raymond Kreder (also with Kinan) told him a lot of good things about it. But I haven't read anything on that topic since.

Good for him. A bit of a surprise, I would say.

Very happy for him though. He's a training machine and I believe he was quite unlucky during his two years with Trek.
Also very self sufficient from a young age. Moved to Como at a young age to train better (without speaking any Italian at all) right before the initial Covid outbreak and was stuck there.

I suppose you have to look at their current crop of young climbers. I think Hellmose would be better than Porter, Pena and probably Berhe.

Even tho they are far from special or consistent, Pena and Berhe have showed way more than Hellemose. Agree about Porter but he's basically been not fit since he became pro.

I assume Hellemose still has good numbers to show, otherwise I don't really understand this transfer. His u23 years were decent tho.

Also surprised, but I'm also happy for him.

Had him in my Emerging riders CQ game a couple of years ago, because I thought he looked like a very under-the-radar good climber as an U23. But now I no longer believe he'll become something great. He's probably on a cheap contract though and can do a decent job as a random climbing domestique. Last time he had the level to be top 20 in smaller hilly/mountainous stage races, so not worse than many others run-of-the-mill WT riders like Palzer, Elissonde etc.

If they have him focus one hilly one day races and short stage races + stagehunting in one GT they can get a lot out of him.
Give him a schedule similar to prime Rui Costa and you should get value for money.
Very reasonable. He's a bit of an odd case because you'd think he could climb like Superman Lopez because of his size, but he's basically a puncheur.
