Teams & Riders The Great Big Cycling Transfers, Extensions, and Rumours Thread

Page 446 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
I find a lot of things wrong with the sport, one of them is the transfer system. I don't mind some people doing their thing to hopefully see changes in the future.
Ya, transfer rules will always be a problem in cycling I believe because of how the labour laws work in various countries. Some places the riders are independent contractors whereas in other countries they are proper employees I believe so contract law works differently depending on what team you ride for.

In some cases it would actually be good to have superseding federal European laws to even things out between countries.

Exactly. Cav would have been a much better example; winning a - record breaking - stage in the Tour as recent as this year.
Cav' #35 win is is one of the most high-profile victory last season.
Just behind Pogacar and Evenepoel wins.

We knew that QS chose Fabio instead of Cav for TDF.
We knew that Cav found difficulty to get a team then.
Only Astana gave him a chance.

Some people said "No one is performing there". So biased.
The truth is that riders are performing in Astana, not only Danes, but also Russian, Kazakhs, Spainish riders.

I just suspect how good Red Bull - Bora can help a rider to develop.

Peter Sagan declined quickly before his 30.
Rising star Aleksandr Vlasov performance is quite below expectation after joined Bora.
Vlasov wasn't a "rising star". His limits were clear and he performs well considering them. Doubt anyone expected Vlasov to fight for GT podiums.

You could make decent point about Higuita though.

Please tell me who then if you're that confident. Astana has been a mess the last few years (no one is saying they didn't have good years before that), everyone knows it. Their own riders say it. It will get better from next season onwards cause of the added budget of course cause that was the main problem.

Cav won 4 times in 2 years time, for a good sprinters that's not much. But I guess I'll give you that one cause he won his Tour stage, but who else then? Scaroni and Velasco I would say. They are pretty good, but also inconsistent. Tejada and Bol maybe decent here and there, apart from that? They ruined Garofoli, Fedorov hasn't shown anything since him stealing U23 Worlds, Moscon was horrible at Astana, Gleb doesn't seem to be making much headlines apart from when he tries to murder someone else in a sprint, Battistella went from an u23 World Champion to a random guy in the peloton, De La Cruz started his backwards trend at Astana, Lutsenko has had like 1 good performance each season the last few years, Charmig is absolutely no where (what danes are doing good there lmao), talented Umba is already being demoted, Schelling no where to be seen (ok, I wouldn't blame Astana for that but still), ...

I mean their track record is absolutely horrible the last few years, shown by the lack of quality wins and their spot on the UCI ranking.

Sagan declined through lack of motivation and some riders who peak when young can decline earlier than what’s expected. Vlasov is performing quite well I think, he has his limits which were always obvious.
Hindley won a GT once he switched to Bora, Lipowitz looks promising, Kamna developed through Bora and without injuries this season most likely would of continued winning races, Meeus has become a solid sprinter through Bora. I don’t think Bora has issues developing riders/helping them reach potential and now with extra cash they should get better at it.

Sagan said as already in decline but he also had COVID 3x which diminishes his chance to occasionally get a good result in the final few years.

I don't think there's anything particularly bad about Astana per se, despite how I feel about Vino. There's very few low-budget teams that truly punch above their weight consistently season after season. Sure there are a few breakout riders like Girmay but most of them are making do with up and comers or rejects from high-budget teams. Add 5 M budget to any team and they should get better, not just through better riders but better support. Jorgenson is a case in point. He did well on Movi when he had to pay for his own nutrition plan etc; he got that as part of the package on Jumbo and did even better.

So who did well in the transfer market so far?
PCS Points (not UCI points) won or lost by transfers and retirements

As I mentioned above, there are still teams will slots available
