They have 38 riders under contract for next year between the two teams. Are they allowed to terminate the contracts of the riders that are not really a fit for the WT with the merger?

43 riders even (PCS isn't up to date).

Well technically Intermarché riders' contracts would be void if they continue on Lotto's license. But legally it isn't that easy is what I've heard. Anyways, you can always buy them out (meaning you can pay them the remainder of their contract).

Ok so that could be a reason to try and keep as many guys as possible within the youth system because that wat they can avoid having to buy out too many contracts.

Difficult one, because between the two teams they have a lot of riders that are not really worth having a WT spot.

There's apparently also a possibility to still pay some riders, but put them in Flanders Baloise for a year. Anyways imo there's no reason to give bad riders a WT spot, even if you have to pay them cause you also have to pay them if you put them in another team or devo team (unless they can get out of some Intermarché contracts), there's no reason to keep talents in the devo team if there's a good reason to want them in the pro team (like for Widar for example or because you don't want to have 8 neopros in 2027). The devo guys that already have that pro contract will be payed like pros next season anyways, even if you keep them in the devo team.

That would seem problematic if both teams are to be in the same race (as they surely will be). Riders paid by Lotto, whose medium term future is tied to Lotto, racing "against" Lotto in a situation where their opportunity to help somebody win the race is going to be assisting Lotto.

Hmmmm

not sure it's so unusual, though. BMC sent Santambrogio to Yellow Fluo back in the days, for example. And there was also some talk (no idea if true) about Ineos still paying part of Pidcock's salary as well.
