Lotto and FDJ technically fall under that umbrella aswell
Possibly controversial political take:
But they are encouraging people to become addicted to betting, and lose all their money.

Ok, that is a fair point, somehow I didn't see those state lottery teams as directly state sponsored.Lotto and FDJ technically fall under that umbrella aswell
True, although some people would argue there is a difference between a lottery and gambling.Possibly controversial political take:

Good signing. Last year, he was one of the few notable signings at BORA. This year, they've dropped him from the Vuelta because he's leaving the team. Initially, he said he was going to the Vuelta, until it became known that he was leaving.Movistar will be bringing an Adría to their December training camp.

According to Gazzetta and spanish journalists, Ayuso will be LIDL rider. Two really good transfers for Movistar. Starting to look a bit more like the team I've been a bit of a fan of earlier. They just need another proper GC leader. Ayuso is on the market of course (unless he already has signed with someone). But he's not really as likeable as Valverde, Mas, Landa and some of the other stars they've had.
If you have the Froome money to spend and the best you can get is Girmay then it says a lot about your pull.
He's pretty good for points tho. Even in a "bad" season. Ok, I'm not mad that he's not coming to the merged team given he's just way to expensive and De Lie is better but it's a type Israel missed, so it's not that bad. And obviously their pull isn't great right now.
there's also a weird rumor (but emphasis on rumor) about Israel talking with Carapaz btw.
Carapaz re-upped with EF iirc
It's great to see them again getting a very solid bunch of riders who can win smaller Spanish races and get good results elsewhere.García Pierna was already linked with Movistar when he first turned pro, and Adrià rode for Lizarte before Kern Pharma, which was a feeder for Movistar at the time, before Kern Pharma was set up as a pro intermediate. Both of them were rumoured to Movistar in 2023 but signed elsewhere, so it's really no shock for them to go there at this stage - classic Unzué being Unzué in letting them go and then having to open the wallet to bring them back.
Juanpe is a slightly different story, but he definitely fits the profile of the kind of rider the team has always liked to have on board. With Ayuso being linked to Lidl-Trek, I wouldn't be surprised if, given Movistar was another team that there were rumours about (although these seemed to be people drawing line-of-best-fit narratives because it seemed to suit both parties rather than anything that there was too much genuine smoke about), López moving out from Trek is part of them clearing the space to accommodate Ayuso, and Movistar is both a logical landing spot for Juanpe and it takes up some of their available budget making them less likely to step in on Ayuso.
And you consider that carapaz disappeared after the Giro being late withdrawals from the TDF and the Vuelta.I know that, that why it's a weird rumor. A contract doesnt mean he won't move.
Well, they had had a pre-contract with C-Rod, but Brailsford hit the roof when he stepped back in about it and upped their offer to keep him. It's great to see them again getting a very solid bunch of riders who can win smaller Spanish races and get good results elsewhere.
If they only had a proper top-tier GC rider (unfortunately Ayuso is the only one existing these days, and maybe C-Rod at a stretch) they would have a great supporting cast. I can't really think of anyone else that really fits Movistar in this category either. There's a bit of a dearth of top Colombian riders at the moment. And Russian riders, which they've had success with in the past, aren't really hot commodity nowadays, and there aren't any good ones in any case. I guess we have to wait for the next Spanish youngster to emerge. Which could take a while, considering non-meme Noval is already signed by Ineos.
Unzue would love a young lion like Roglic! Valverde race tactics and actually the TT-ability to back it up? Perfect for him!Well, they had had a pre-contract with C-Rod, but Brailsford hit the roof when he stepped back in about it and upped their offer to keep him.
As for potential GC guys that could 'fit' Movistar, obviously they're hoping for Diego Pescador on that front. Otherwise it's probably dumpster diving for reclamation projects, that's long been an Unzué thing, and there are a few riders, especially those who might get squeezed out in the super-teams, who might be able to fit in there. People like Bernal or Vlasov aren't in the market right now but they are the kind of riders that wouldn't be surprising to see Movistar go for. Plus of course I've memed on how much Unzué would love Primož Roglič.
Iirc, Breschel said the reason he didn't start the Vuelta was illness, fwiw. And you consider that carapaz disappeared after the Giro being late withdrawals from the TDF and the Vuelta.
