El Pais is saying that Carlos Rodriguez has signed with Movistar. However, where Marca earlier was speaking of a full contract for 3 years, El Pais is saying it is ''just'' a pre-contract. Meaning that a full deal is yet to be disclosed, and INEOS could buy Carlos out from said pre-contract with Movistar in order to have him extend instead, which they wouldn't be unwilling to do.

Keeping Up With the Kardashians couldn't have written a better script.

Ofcourse it's "just" a pre-contract, it's impossible to sign a real one already (UCI won't acknowledge them). Technically Ineos doesn't even have to give Movistar a compensation.

Can't you sign the contract, but just not announce it yet?
Wasn't there some talk that Carapaz had already signed with Ineos when he won the Giro?

Pretty sure you can't. All these contracts are just pre-contracts. Riders just don't go back on them, and other teams look at them as legit.

As far as I know, the actual recruitment (signing the rider) also has to take place between the beginning of August and the end of December.

What is the UCI rule on riders signing with men's elite teams? Can they sign before August 1?

No, riders cannot sign with new men's elite teams before August 1. The UCI's Rider Transfer Period for men's elite teams runs from June 1 to July 15. Riders who are not under contract with a UCI team on July 15 can sign with a new team starting on August 1.

The UCI's Rider Transfer Period is designed to give teams time to plan for the upcoming season and to prevent riders from jumping from team to team at the last minute. It also helps to ensure that all riders have a fair chance to find a new team if their current contract expires.

There are a few exceptions to the Rider Transfer Period rule. For example, riders who are released from their contracts by their current teams before July 15 are free to sign with new teams immediately. Additionally, riders who are under contract with a UCI team but are not racing for that team due to injury or other reasons can sign with a new team starting on August 1.

If you are a rider who is interested in signing with a new men's elite team, you should contact the team directly to inquire about their transfer policy.

This is a Bard fail, right? The transfer period for the current season is from August 1-15.

I think it's one of those things where the pre-contracts are taken as being defacto contracts because no one can afford the legal fees and potential professional consequences of going to courts with it.

Buzzards circling for Remco. This is going to get interesting...

“Do I have to write a registered letter? Should I complain to the UCI that they are harassing Remco? And what if they deny? Should I call them all liars?” Lefevere told Het Laatste Nieuws of the approaches made to his under-contract rider.

😂

I know Pat is Pat but I can appreciate it's not a great position. Taking at face value the contract buyout speculated in the article of 12m€... That's a nice sum but still less than one year of budget (15-20m is the accepted figure for SQS, IIRC) and is it enough to rebuild a whole team from scratch ? Not to mention you're never finding a 1:1 replacement for such a talent. And a Belgian one at that.

Perhaps it would be more healthy to build back a Classics powerhouse spread over an overall more balanced team than to perpetually field an anemic GT team not up to the mission of supporting Evenepoel but doing so in a single year without misfiring on your casting is a tall order.
