Interview with Chairman of the Board (Soudal-Quickstep) Bessel Kok

Highlights

- 31 million euros from Canadian millionaire Sylvan Adams to buy team
- Meeting with Ineos
- Pinarello is considering stopping as bicycle sponsor of Ineos at the end of 2024. At the same time, Specialized would end the collaboration with TotalEnergies and Bora-Hansgrohe by then. Specialized would put everything on Ineos and then immediately have the two greatest talents of the moment in its portfolio: Evenepoel and Pidcock.
- (Rumour) Zdenek Bakala would have approached Richard Plugge, the CEO of Jumbo-Visma, to lead the team. That would have happened after Patrick Evenepoel visited Bakala in Geneva.

Spez end with Energies end of the 2023 season
Spez re-signed with Bora until 2026

Interesting clause in Pinarello x Ineos sponsorship contract. 'Product Validation Clause'. Something that Team Ineos has in all contracts with its sponsors.

“Team Ineos has the right not to use our bikes if they feel they are not the best in the market,” says Sbirissa. “Then they can use other bicycles and we still have to pay the contract. A situation that has of course never occurred before.”

Henok Mulubrhan to Astana.

Decent signing but if they want to remain as a WT team in 2026, a lot more needs to be done I guess...

Stewart and Schelling as well are good signings, but i agree this is a C and D level signings and they need at least some options to do Top-5 GC, if they want to keep license.

Fortunato got sick/peaked to early and was bad during the Giro, but if he performs consistent on his TotA and Asturias level that he showed this season he's a good signing. Mire of a Ciccone style stage- and KoM hunter than a gc rider in gts, but compared to what they have now it's a big improvement.

so, by the look of it it will be easier for Ineos to get Remco and Specialized in 2025.
2024 is too early for sponsors deals and other stuff to be changed.

If ineos wants/can get him for 2024 then sponsorship deals ie Pinarello won't prevent it happening. In theory he could join ineos and be the only one riding a specialized due to an alleged "Product Validation" Clause in all their sponsor contracts.

sure he could. probably, and hopefully, they understood it would be too much of a mess and 2025 is easier

Tell me more. Campbell or Mark? Or some other Stewart I haven't heard about?

I fail to understand why so many of the young talents are going to UAE, unless they want a bucketful of cash - I just can't see how UAE can develop so many riders.

Massive lols if Caja Rural approached Del Toro but Bora didn't after racing against him in Sibiu. 2 min of research about his prior results and you give him your number/ask for his number and if you don't want to sign him to your wt straight you probably do that after his results in Valle d'Aosta already.

Bora probably prefers signing some random crossover athletes instead...
