Who's the old Martin Ødegaard? Well, I suppose it's someone named Martin Ødegaard...

A football player who was signed by Real Madrid when he was 16. If Øksnes' career turns out the same way, he won't be a success at Visma, but will go on to become a star at INEOS (a British team that used to win big races when a Frenchman was in charge, but doesn't anymore).

Bit confusing with the 2026, but reading the info, he's signed for next year and two more years (2024-2026 in other words)
A big guy (1.90 m) so the next Ganna, Movistar must be hoping.
Same info at their website at

"I had the honour and the opportunity to share a few days of training camp with the team in Alicante last year and I was delighted. From the second day it seemed as if he had been there all his life; They are fantastic people, easy to get along with, and an excellent staff. Looking forward to these weeks of pre-season quickly so that we can start working with the team. Next year will be special for me, with the Olympics and the goals on the track, but I want to develop little by little on the road; To grow in the time trials, which are my specialty, and to be able to do equally well in the future in the classics. We'll see what the future holds and how far we can go."

Visma - Buy a Kid have picked up the next Martin Ødegaard according to Norwegian TV2. I guess there's nothing stopping them from signing Paula Ostiz or my 2 year old niece (I'm sure she'll become a star one day) to their women's team as well.

This is getting silly. I can understand a talented 1st year junior getting signed for a top u23 team and maybe a super talented 2nd year junior like we've seen more recently going straight to a WT team but as you alude to, when will it stop...

Unzue also likes to have strong rouleurs on the team, so with Erviti and Rojas calling it a day they need replacements.

Another young rider from norway to visma, maybe the kids from norway and denmark have a vo2 max superior than the kids from slovenia.
The reason, of course, is that Visma are a Norwegian company. And also, maybe, that Norway is quite obsessed with endurance sports so they test these guys really young.

I don't know if they'll find a proper talent this way though, there have been some Norwegian super talents in the past but none of them really broke through. Who was that guy who became junior world champion time trial, in Valkenburg I think it was. Never heard from him again.

Oskar Svendsen. Came fifth at Avenir as a first-year U23 the year after, then retired the year after that. The cohorts between generation 1990 and the current supergeneration were full of big talents quitting at age 19, 20 or 21 though, not just the Norwegians.

Oscar Svendsen.
He retired when he was 20 because he lacked motivation to train that hard. He had a very special story, he was an alpine skier until he was 15 and had a very short cycling career. If I remember correctly he has big problems riding in the peloton.

Apparently he also had the highest Vo2max ever recorded, but I ususally take all those high numbers coming from Norway with a grain of salt.
Last year there was an interesting article about his story:

They were a little short on riders, they only had 26 for next year (25 if you exclude Hessmann). Lemmen has shown some promise, plus he's Dutch. And he's a former airforce officer, which fits the mold of riders with lots of room to improve that Jumbo always seem to be on the lookout for.
I didn't mean intriguing as in 'why are they signing him', but intriguing as in 'I wonder how far he can go with them'. Interesting prospect who I feared was going to be ***ed over by HPH folding.

Due to a strange confluence of events in my life, I’ve neglected to renew my subscription to (checks) La Voix du Nord.

Care to summarize the signings?
I send it to PCS and they updated the team roster for 2024 ;-)
