….unlike going to Bora for the money?
Bora is one of the better teams in the peloton and Astana has been the worst WT team for like 3 years now. Money always plays a role about where the riders or other sports players sign because why wouldn't it- everybody wants to be financially well-off. But Bora, besides money, is a good option from a sporting point of view, unlike Astana, which barely had any riders thriving in there in the last few years.
I'm still hoping it's EF
It would be such an unlike-EF signing in these circumstances.

But you know, Amador recently retired despite having a contract for 2025 so perhaps they're making place for Van Gils' late signing not gonna happen.

Bora offers way more than just money. Better coaches, trainers, nutritionists, etc. Basically they are better than Lotto at probably everything besides youth development. Would be lame that he goes to Astana for more money, if he could get more than enough at Bora while simultaneously ride better results.
Cavendish got his #35... Where?

Van Gils and Lotto go different ways. Both parties came to an agreement. No news yet about his future team.
Came to an agreement to part ways, I believe that is what I was predicting when they fell out as they did. Business as usual.

It would be crazy if he went to Astana. The team has no credibility as of now. No one is performing there and their signings mainly consist of ageing riders chasing a hugely overpriced last / second to last contract.

Hmm. Strange that Kajamini at 21, van Bekkum at 22 and Champoussin at 26 are riding their last or second to last season...

Say what you want about Astana, but I’d still see that the lesser evil than Bora stockpiling another talent, this time by having them break their contract.

How do you mean stockpiling another talent? I don't feel they keep on buying riders out of their contract. But also, Red Bull gave them a lot of money, they expect results. They've gotten a budget they can work with, not using it wouldn't make sense either.

I said last contract or second to last contract, which should be the case for the young Poels and Ulissi at 35, or Teunissen, Bettiol and Masnada at 32 and 31.

I think the buy out of the contract is so exaggerated. Van Gils is from Belgium. There is this Belgium law why he was able to break his contract. He would have done it regardless of Red Bull or not. So it is not a matter of Red Bull breaks the contract, it is a matter that the rider wants to get out.

In addition I wonder if anyone had so much problems that Uijtdebroeks broke his contract and signed with Visma that what Red Bull is trying to do now. Pretty skewed perception for me

From what I could find online, this law would allow him to break his contract if he pays the remaining value of it to lotto. Which of course means red bull is paying that much, on top of what they're paying him, so this move makes fiscal sense only if his contract undervalued him by 50% or more.

In this forum the discussion last year regarding Uijtdebroecks was also very intense, went on for a long time and was in general very similar to Van Gils now. And a lot of people have expressed their pleasure with Blobloblos struggle this year after his move. I don’t see any skewed perception on this forum at least, and I think it’s wrong to try to turn this situation into anti-Bora agenda or something,

Imho the Uijtdebroeks situation was a tad different. Van Gils never claimed ridiculous internal bullying by Van Eetvelt and his buddies as the reason to break the contract. He was upfront in that regard - he just wanted more money. It is still unfair for Lotto, but at least he is not throwing shade to his (former) team.

What do you think he went to Bora for, the energy juice?
The better trainers, nutritionists, bikes, etc.

Do you think all teams are basically the same, and the only thing worth evaluating is money? Then why didn't Evenepoel leave yet?
