Pedersen himself made the reference before the first stage while speaking to a journalist. After the stage, the journalist asked if he could call him Peppa Pigesen. Pedersen replied, "Do what you want, but Pigesen sounds really nasty in Danish."

For the non-Danes:

"Pig" is pronounced like "pik" in Demmark - which is a slang word for "***".

He's destroying Danish records en masse this Giro, though the two he broke by winning stage 13 are significantly newer than the one he broke earlier.

He now has the record for most Danish GT stage wins (10), a record he shared with Cort since stage 5.
He also has the record for most Danish stage wins in a single GT (4), a record he shared with Cort since stage 19 of the 2022 Vuelta.

He has Pogacar and MVP in the Tour.

In this shape he can match them - but it's not happening anyway, because it would mess with Milan and his lead out squad and create unending friction in the team.

If someone gets an injury however... ;)

In this shape he gets destroyed like he was in March/April.

I'm not writing off Milan yet, and he is better than Pedersen for the real bunch sprints - it's why the team signed him.

And he hasn't exactly been terrible, stage wins in Valenciana, UAE and Tirreno, points jersey in UAE and Tirreno, and 6th in Kuurne, 2nd in Brugge and 3rd in Wevelgem.

Roubaix is his big Achilles heel, he has never finished the race, but Mads has got that one covered

Mads Pedersen jumped to 3rd in the UCI ranking after his successes in the Giro.

Of course, in the next couple of months he won't be scoring many points, as he's not going to the Tour.

Mads Pedersen is now 2nd in the UCI ranking. Impressive. It may have been a surprise when he won his world championship six years ago, but he has definitely proven his worth since then.

Via his UCI points and Vingegaard's, Denmark is third in the nations' ranking. However, there are problems further down the list. After those two riders (and perhaps Skjelmose), there is a big gap to the next ones. As a team, Denmark is by no means the third strongest.
