The Matthew Brennan Threat

So, here's a bandwagon to jump on, is Brennan the new Cav?
The general view so far from Visma has been that he is not an out and out world class flat course sprinter. May be he is, but he is more versatile than Cav.
Its good that he can win in on varied courses and different situations. Stage one of Catalonia is a classic.
Flat line sprint courses appear not to be on top of the TDF's future agenda, Thierry Gouvenou himself has indicated so.

But is he the new Cav, well he will get the hype, so why not. Makes a change from another new Eddy.

Beating Milan twice in the Deutschland Tour and already 11 pro wins this season

At this point Visma should start thinking about sending Brennan to the Tour next year, even though it will probably be either the Giro or the Vuelta because of Vingegaard.

I'd imagine he'll get Giro leadership. Jonas will be the boss for the Tour, that will be the focus again so can't see him doing the Giro as well, and he'll probs want an option for La Vuelta.

I wonder what offers he's had from other team though? Ineos seem to be linked with every 2nd and 3rd rate GC rider out there, but surely buying Brennan out of his contract, which won't be that much, and giving him the keys, the full train, everything, would make more sense.

Wonder what the plan with him is for next year. If I was the Director of Visma I would include that guy for most races between Omloop and Roubaix.

Would skip Strade and probably E3 and Flanders but other than that I would make have him join every race. Could be a very good addition besides Wout for those classics.

I think you need to be very careful in terms of racing him too hard too young if you let him do the opening weekend. No harm in letting him use the early season to build up and then start his classics schedule at Sanremo.

This applies even more strongly if you let him do his GT debut at the Giro. Given that the WC is probably too hard for him, you could also pick the Vuelta, but that might be too easy for him by that point. Don't love the idea of him domestiquing at the Tour at this stage in his career.

If I find one of him doing a pursuit style finish I will post it. Brennan has some impressive skills!! Wicked fast when doing traditional sprinting he can really wind it up..but he has some pursuit looking stuff were he can go from pretty far away, just does a mini TT and he generates incredible speed. Lots of times this year he floats and finds a way through, doesn't always need a standard lead out.. I don't if he ever raced track or how much but the guy is very natural.

Yeah if you want him to make his debut at the Giro a lighter program in the spring would make sense.

I would for sure include some classics like MSR and Gent-Wevelgem in that case but skip the opening weekend.

If you have the Vuelta as a GT for him doing the opening weekend and a heavier program would make sense to me in spring.
