I can't find any footage of this, but it should be mentioned as one of the most underrated performances of the last 10 years: Bettini in Züri Metzgete in 2005. He attacked, made everyone look like turtles, dropped his chain, everyone caught up with him, and he just dropped them again like they were a bunch of clowns. He won that race with a 3(!) minute lead on Fränk Schleck.

Truly one of the best performances I've ever seen. He wasn't just a level above the rest, he was 10 levels above the rest.

I remember that one, the weather was horrific, sure there was only 20-30 finishers from a field of ca. 200?

Looks like there were 49 finishers: http://autobus.cyclingnews.com/road/2005/oct05/zurich05/?id=results

Cunego finished 14th, over 7 minutes back  Th weather was terrible that day yeah. Rain is always a guarantee for huge differences in classics, just look at Gilbert in Lombardia or Traksel in Kuurne for some recent examples.

nah the gap he got on verbier was way larger.

arcalis had a massive head wind tho.

also the acceleration itself was more powerful on arcalis where he was going so fast he almost pulled a menchov on a turn.

verbier is a better ride as he dropped every and kept putting time into them but arcalis is the best attack/ acceleration imo
