They had better be though.

I'd got it in my head that there weren't enough wild card slots for all the Italian ProConti teams this year, but I was including Geox in that. Should be 4 of these 6, highly likely it'd be the four Italian teams although the organisers said they may be inviting more foreign teams so 1T4I or Coldeportes could have a chance.

Acqua & Sapone (Ita)
Androni Giocattoli (Ita)
Colnago – CSF INOX (Irl)
Colombia – Coldeportes (Col)
Farnese Vini (GBr)
Project 1T4I (Ned)

if the organization has to sacrifice one italian team it will be colnago even th they have pozzovivo and from the 2 foreign teams only coldeportes is a good invite bringing old skills would be a waste of a wild card imo

pretty much duarte alone makes a very strong case for them

I think they will already show good results in early february to show they deserve invite. when will wildcards be given?

Pozzovivo will podium the giro, you heard it here first ;)

i think all four italian teams get the invite. Gotta think Guardini and Pozzato will be enough for Farnese Vini.

I'd be willign to sacrafice Pozzovivo for coldeportes tho :p

Pozzovivo will win that crazy-tough MTF in Trentino and the GC with it.

If Colnago go to the Giro he will get ill in week 2 and drop out on stage 13. And I will be sad again, because I really want to see that featherweight killing everybody in the mountains. We know he CAN do it (Trentino '10 and the Giro dell'Apennino most obviously, outside of Fedaia '08), but he's just too fragile, too lightweight and too susceptible to illness and injury.

yeh it almost feels inconcievable that he could last an entire GT unnafected. 2012 please

Fixed it for you :p

I thought he'd be great in 2010 and then proceeded to suck. He isn't the type of rider that can stay up on GC over the course of 3 weeks. He may win a mountain stage though. Like Rujano this year.

I would take;
Acqua if only because of Garzelli ( KOM ) and Di Luca
Coldportes, because they would animate the race and it would give them a boost
Androni, because they have Serpa, Sella, Monsalve, Santoro and of course Rujano. Ferrari can do a decent sprint as well.
Farnese because Guardini, Gatto and Pozzato are all talented.

I would love to see Modolo go however. 1T4I should concentrate on the TDF with Geniez ( a french rider ) and Kittel/ Degenkolb for the sprints. Kittel could get a stage in a mass sprint, whilst Degenkolb could challenge EBH/ Goss on harder finishes. Team Sky will also be harder stretched at the TDF.

Not a bad call. Other than his breakaway wins I don't see why receives so much hype. Simon Clarke will be a good ardennes rider in a few years time.

Simon Gerrans is a solid rider. He just can't win the big races. However he is a dangerous threat in all the races he goes to because he has been consistent as of late/ if he gets in breaks he will win. I do however agree that Simon Clarke is better and shows a lot of potential. I think along with Cadel he should have a protected role at the WC RR next year.

El Pistolero, i agree with you that Cav will go better in races outside of GT's next year. He will not have as busy an end of season. He looks to also repeat his 09 schedule, minus the ToC.

Do you mean they will help Valverde so therefore more chance of success or they will have success as riders themselves

1st idea - maybe but ardennes are like sprint stages ( except L-B-L ) but more relent on the individual AND 2nd idea - Nope although Costa could do ok - well I would like him too but I think he will get schooled net year

I think Costa is very tactically astute and with some guidance he will be a top notch Ardennes rider. Next year however he shall have to work for Valverde or go in late race breaks.

What i meant was Costa and Visconti will help Valverde unless if he is entirely out of form.

Gerrans should not be a protected rider. Do I have to remind you what happened at Mendrisio? I think I will. Neil Stephens organised a team vote between Gerrans and Evans on who should be the team leader. The team voted for Gerrans (how is that remotely logical i do not know) 8-1. Evans was a loyal servant to Gerrans. Inthe last lap, Evans hung back with the 2nd group when the split occured so ge didn't drag anyone across to the dangerous move that Gerrans was in. Clearly he didn't have it so while Cancellara was putting in a big attack Evans had to ride across on his own to get across to the lead group. The rest is history but what I am saying is that Gerrans is not in the league Evans is in regarding hilly classics. Until Clarke really proves himself next year he should also not be a protected rider.

Hopefully they get to invite 5 teams like last year. Really want to see all of A&S, Androni, COlnago, Farnese and Coldeportes.

I'm talking about Clarke being the protected leader ( of course only if he does well next year but the chances are likely since he shall probably lead GE at most hilly races ) along with Evans, not Gerrans. In their i did not say Gerrans would be granted protection status, i said "I think along with Cadel he should have a protected role at the WC RR next year", but that came after talking about Clarke, not Gerrans.

Sry for the misunderstanding.

This exactly I really want to see all 5 of them in the Giro!

I want to see Pozzovivo, Modolo, Pirazzi and maybe some of their young guys in the giro.
I want to see Di Luca, Garzelli, Betancurt in the giro.
I want to see Gatto, Guardini, Pozzato and Ascani (think he can do pretty well in GC although he will probably be a bit of an invisible rider in the giro).
I want to see Rujano, Sella, Serpa and Ferrari in the giro.
And I want to see south American entertainment in the giro!

If I had to chose for 1 of those 5 to be left out I would leave Farnese Vini out.

He sucked because he fell every day (some days more then once) he raced except in 1 stage he managed to stay on his bike the hole stage, he even fell in the prologue, that was really a pitty since I was really looking forward for him to perform in the mountains (same as last year but then he had bronchitis). So now Im looking forward to it again so I really hope he can start and will survive the flat stages and be fit for the mountains.
