Actually it's much simpler then that and rest assured that each party involved knows their responsibility. In 2022 UCI acted swiftly but for whatever reasons involved UCI now doesn't want to act on it even under pressure of protestors and at expense of rider safety. So what is basically going on now is different parties involved, not only the protestors, will force UCI to act on it. This is inevitable outcome, unless underlying issues sort itself out in near future. Note that we are not talking about setting any precedent here, that was already done in the past.

Some are now backing Spain and some are arguing against Spain hosting future races. Ultimately one has to ask the question, what is more likely to happen in the 2026 season, for race organisers to gain possibility to remove high risk safety factor from the peloton or for Denmark to host Vuelta. In addition i don't know if some are really that much out of touch with reality to believe the exact same problem won't be present in races held outside Spain.

Yeah, it seem that an era has ended and from 2025 season and going forward UCI will have to be mindful in terms of supporting only events that are aligned with core values of sport. When refusing to do so that will be scrutinised and called out.
They don't care it will be called out. WC 2028 will still happen in Abu Dhabi

In the past i would agree but there is just no way they can dodge this one. The world has gone mad and the idea UCI can remain some sort of island and ignore that altogether. No way. Even if they would try, the parties they are supposedly governing won't play along for long.

Of course they could but they wait for IOC or simliar to decide something. No single sport will be first.

You are just repeating something we already discussed in terms of the 2022 and 2023 events and hence that was already refuted as not being accurate.

I'm curious about Tour Down Under 2026 and the first Spanish races in Jan/Feb 2026, to see IF IPT is still there and how the crowds will react. they could skip ALL the Spanish races?

I mean it seems that they simply won't be invited and that is that. Just seen that Spain is now conditioning their World Cup participation. Sports really seem to be in a dark place, on where politicians from some countries must force sports governing bodies to align with core values of sport.

And you are repeating yourself too. UCI will not be first mover. And I didn't dicusssed anything 2022 or 2023.

@AmRacer

Of course we went through all of this already:

Anyway, we'll see. Historically speaking protestors, some riders, a country ... were as you say the first movers. Lets see on where UCI stacks. Politically IJC, a bunch of individuals, Greta, EU commission, UN, Bernie ...
were as you say the first movers in terms of the West. Slovenia played a role too, early movers.

Greta is not somebody, and same goes for Bernie. We are talking sports now and UCI won't be first sport org mover.

@AmRacer

I mean you are widening the debate here, making it a question of prestige in between each sport governing body for every sport in existence. Here one would really need a crystal ball to vehemently say UCI will or won't be the very first one.

In terms of UCI and IOC, that IMHO is settled, expectation on who will be first based on the past events. For example UCI will need to make a move in terms of 2026 season already, IOC still has some leeway as Olympics are scheduled for 2028. Or what are you saying, that IOC will be working hard for UCI to align with that going into 2026 season? About that, great if it happens, but i wouldn't hold my breath.

Anyway, we'll see.

Nope, you are. UCI won't be the first mover. That's how it is. It's not about prestige, but waiting for a higher sport body to take a decission.

@Wyndbrook

I mean SRAM is asking the right question, that is prove it with data before banning it, or i guess don't do that but after restriction is applied then a drop in statistics must be detected. Looks like UCI is really being called out on all fronts now. In the past they would just shrug it off.

@AmRacer

So basically and so far IOC has done nothing. I assume they will rather have potential protests and to act on it for the next ones. Tough luck for UCI, i guess, as in cycling we are one step beyond that already. So acting surprised in the 2026 season somewhat won't work. We'll see.

UCI is at the same step as every other sport organisations.
