Another 300km in the legs will do him good........and in a race situation. It sort of makes sense thinking about it. As for winning, I don't think so....

With all the riders pulling out my interest in MSR was really down but this helps. Don't think he'll win but you'd be crazy to completely count him out. The fact that there will be very little hard racing should help. I doubt he'll be there if a Pog/Rog/WVA/Cosnefroy type group gets away but other than something like that he'll likely be in whatever group is fighting for the win.

suprised we didn't see @senna6541 yet, he should be over the moon now God on Wheels is back :p
Hah! Must have missed my post from yesterday on this thread. Said I had an inkling this could happen - why not given he was going to be lining up right in the same region Tuesday. Perfect race to get some more miles in the legs, at worst. At best, who knows. He puts ALL his data out there on Strava (why not WVA and Pogi?) and he's definitely built a nice base. And when you have the natural talent to drop 740 watts for a minute late in a race like SB (destroying Pogi and Wout), and you've won more elite bike races than anyone on the planet, anything is possible. Bottom line is that MVDP is the best bike racer in the world. His performance at PR this past fall told you all you need to know about him as a competitor. Bad back, bad prep, and the most brutal conditions imaginable - and still went balls deep and wrecked pretty much everybody. Guys like Wout and Pogi better get MVDP tomorrow while the getting is good. Cause they'll both be going backwards fast at RVV this year when MVDP drops the hammer.

^^Funny guy.

I can't see him soft-pedaling a monument, however, so if he's feeling OK I expect he'll be at the pointy end.

In theory MSR is a race that suits him well -- a huge effort on the Poggio, everyone wonders who will chase, and he's gone. But in practice we saw that his positioning hurt him, maybe sometimes he doesn't have the most subtle tactical sense (not that he needs it when his legs are good).

I don't know how he does it, but miles better than last year at MSR. Even with an all out race from the Cipressa onwards and without racing miles in the legs. He will be ready for Ronde.
His weakness seems to be pack surfing for position. The reduced group from cipressa probably helped massively and mitigated his weakness.

I like that he understands he needs to work to win. Sometimes he does too much (Roubaix) but he won't just give up and cat and mouse for podium as soon as an attack goes

All I think of when watching this guy is how many years he has left in a bike race. Sadly.

Sucks he didnt win today, he was amazing! I was kinda down on the classics this year because it didnt look like he will participate, but suddenly Im super hyped again to watch him in E-3, Flanders, Amstel and Roubaix.

Probably the most exciting classic season we have since I don't know when, maybe before my time. Not saying it won't end up disappointing everyone. But this generation can't stop promise lots of good racing, at least outside grand tours.

Yeah, these races are the best races on the calendar consistently and when you have riders like this, it will get even better.

I hadn't realized that it only took him 6 total participations to have a top 10 in every monument
8, Roubaix.

He really is a superhuman isn’t he? Was also visibly upset on the finish line, looked like the fastest out of the bunch so the frustration is understandable, could have won had they pulled Mohoric back.

MVDP is back y’all, and I’m here for all of it.
He looked really strong in the sprint. Could have done another performance like in Amstel if he hadn't stopped pulling the last km.

This. I kept expecting him to go after Mohoric, but he clearly did not want to be the guy who launched someone else to victory. But I think he could have at least gotten a clean second instead of Turgis.
