Yeah, Remco is nowhere to be seenPurely looking at positions in monuments Mathieu has better results anyway
Barely rides monuments compared to those twoYeah, Remco is nowhere to be seen
Doesnt have many GT results or wins either, when compared to others.Yeah, Remco is nowhere to be seen
Key magic words 'half peloton' 😁„It's no fair play to go full gas after a crash where more than half of the bunch is blocked,"
"For me, this is something we would never do as a team. I'm not gonna waste too many words on it, but just it shows a real problem in cycling, in my opinion,"

Mathieu van der Poel angered and calls out teams for unsportsmanlike tactics at E3 Saxo Classic despite solo domination
Dutchman says teams pacing full gas after half the peloton was caught behind early crash 'shows a real problem in cycling'www.cyclingnews.com
If any rider in Mathieu‘s group crashes during the classics, I expect him to go the front and slow down the group. Or is there some minimum number of riders or minimum distance to the finish? Or is it because King Mathieu thinks he‘s someone special? Maybe he‘s traumatised from last year‘s Liège when this also happened? And how is this a real problem in cycling? It just shows that people will take advantage of favorable race situations instead of adhering to some unwritten rules.
So it starts at 87.5/175 riders, thanksKey magic words 'half peloton' 😁
He waits for him at the finish line every race.Did VDP wait for WVA in P-R 2023?
Nope, once he saw WVA with a punctured tire, he ran away.He waits for him at the finish line every race.
Not the same at all. It’s as if you are deliberately being obtuseDid VDP wait for WVA in P-R 2023?
I know. Not the same at all. It’s as if you are deliberately being obtuse
Not really because both instances aren’t comparable in the slightest.I know.
But one can argue that he is being hypocrite, right?
He already has got the bad luck of the presence of Tadej Pogacar on the startlist for those races. What a monster.
Unless he is got some bad luck, i think he will be unbeatable on PR and Flandres.
Pogi fans conveniently forget that MVDP also happens to be the greatest CX racer of all-time and was the best MTB racer in the world the last time he put the minimal amount of time it takes to be the best in the world at anything (2019). I would say a podium at LBL and a pure climbers WC aren't bad either for a guy who actually looks healthy. There are more exciting disciplines in cycling that require more technical skill than skeletons going up smooth mountain roads at 15mph...Don’t think there haven’t been many top riders doing the 5 monuments every year. What’s even the point of that if you tried, even came close and now know you physiologically can’t win.
He won 6 out of his last 10 monuments (+WC), while being 2nd in de Ronde and 3th in Liege and a harder WC course. The other one he closed Pogi and helped his teammate win Sanremo.
grapes to refried beans comparison!Did VDP wait for WVA in P-R 2023?
Boonen won 4 times PR too.If Mathieu wins De Ronde on Sunday, he will be the first rider to become the rider with most wins in one particular monument since 1977 where De Vlaeminck won Paris-Roubaix for the fourth time.
Bro I can't figure this sentence outIf Mathieu wins De Ronde on Sunday, he will be the first rider to become the rider with most wins in one particular monument since 1977 where De Vlaeminck won Paris-Roubaix for the fourth time.
Boonen won 4 times PR too.
Oh, Ok. Somehow I was focussed on the 4 wins....He didn't become the outright leader, which was what I was talking about. Many people have equalled records since then, but nobody have beaten them in monuments.
I'm saying that since 1977, no rider has beaten an existing record of most victories in one of the five monuments.Bro I can't figure this sentence out
i dont know why Pogi fans are so harsh/disrespectful of VDP all the time when Pogi himself isn't, he is very respectful. Pogi is for sure a lot better than his fans.Pogi fans conveniently forget that MVDP also happens to be the greatest CX racer of all-time and was the best MTB racer in the world the last time he put the minimal amount of time it takes to be the best in the world at anything (2019).
