This would be an awesome schedule. Hope the quick turnaround from MTB WC's to Benelux Tour doesn't mean he won't be doing the MTB WC's. Given the short effort though, and the fact he'd be able to sleep at home for the Benelux makes it seem very reasonable vs. waiting around for the Tour Britain. So much great racing left regardless.
definitely wont do euros

mtb xcc is new? because as i remember it there was only xco wc before.
mvdp is a bit of an xcc specialist due to his explosive nature

Forced to end the training camp earlier due to the back pain...

Roodhooft explained he had back issues dating back to before OG.
Nothing to bad, he can do easy rides without any pain, but it plays up when he tries to go deeper.

They expect it to go away by itself. The WC in Leuven is still 5 weeks away, so I don't think it'll be a problem for him but not a perfect preparation whatsoever.

It still could hamper his preparation for the XCO WCH in Val di Sole (28.8.) though...

the story doesn't paint a reassuring picture that's for sure. And I do think it's related to bike positions. He has had back issues before in both 2018 and 2019, both times when switching to the mountainbike.

I think it's specifically MTB related.
IDK, I'm a 54 year old stiff hack and I regularly switch between between my MTB (Epic), CX/gravel (Stigmata) and road bike (Aeroad) with 3 different saddles and inconsistent setups w/no problems. Thinking a 26 yro freak of nature wouldn't have any issues. MVDP says he's not a guy who gets worked up if is saddle is a mm off either - more of get on the bike and ride type. I'm just hoping it's not from that stupid OG crash. If he's healthy there's so much great racing left this year. Big loss for all us viewers if he isn't.

possibly or other way around... switching bikes and positions throughout the disciplines could help him with the pains he might got from staying on the same (road) bike in the same position for longer periods. who knows. could be something totally different.
let's see how he does on WCH, hope he gets the medal (gold preferably) :)

Tbh, it would suprise me if he wins it after this preparation.

It might be a brigde to far, but could this backpain have nothing to do with the constant change between CX, Road and Mountainbike? Every bike has another position

Isn't there a XCC race in the World Championships?

At least that one should be a good opportunity to get a gold medal even if it is the 'lesser race'.

Perhaps if he paid more attention to it he wouldn't get the off and on back pain that he seems to get, but at the fan level, we'll never know for sure. The OG crash certainly could have exacerbated things, it was quite the spectacular crash

His big goal on the MTB is probably Paris Olympics, so I'm not sure how much he cares about his points and starting position for the next 2 years. Of course it would be nice and likely something on his bucket list to become WC at least once.

It's also not like it would take him that many races to be up there in front on the starting grid again.

Let's be honest his Moubtain bike campaign achieved two European titles and a bronze medal in the World Championships besjdes the World Cup wins which is not bad but I am sure that he is not satisfied with the outcome.

I hope that he focuses on the road almost exclusively in the next two seasons but its still a shame that he has to give up of the possibility of getting three World titles especially in a year in which he had the opportunity of racing the XCC.

If wants to do the MTB in Paris he needs to race already in 2022.

The next olympic qualification cycle will start next May, so he needs to help his country get points. For Tokyo, the Netherlands had 2 places and were 5th on the rankings (from 8th downwards only 1 place available). For Paris, the total number of riders will be 36 (2 less than in Tokyo), but we don't know how they will slash it (if taking back 1 riders of the nations who can send 3 or if having fewer teams with 2 places).

Now they also have Milan Vader as a top rider, so if MVP wants to go he needs to help his country get 2 places and it will be difficult for Vader to achieve that on his own. They also have David Nordemann, but his progression has been somewhat inconsistent due to injuries.

Exactly! With the next Olympics only 3 years away (or 2 when the next World Cup season starts) he can't afford to miss too many races; his ranking is going to drop. 4 ranking race results since 2019 is going to hurt him. And the next two summers are going to involve having to do the Tour; so that means racing only the May World Cups, and any post Tour World Cups. That's not a lot, really.
I know it's an unpopular opinion on here, but the road is possibly getting in the way of the MTB ambitions.
