I still say what he did at PR is the very best example of what he is all about as a bike racer and a winner. Minimal preparation and questionable back for a brutal 6 hour bike race under the best of conditions. Took the race by the scruff of the neck and pretty much destroyed 99% of the field - including WVA. Taking seconds out of guys in an out of every shitty corner, especially into the cobbles. Can't wait to see this guy back on the starting line.

Yeah, that was what I recall from the race; he was so much better in the cobbled corners (they showed a few from the overhead helicopter - and it was noticeable) ......however, his form wasn't quite there, and his late attack was brought back. If on form , then he gets away and not seen......

yup, couldn't keep up the effort in the in between parts. Although he kept doing a lot of work.Maybe if he gambled a bit more he could've won even with that form.

It was in Roubaix I first noticed how much better he is in corners on cobbles than everyone else. By all means it's damning he only had the chance to ride 1 Roubaix so far. While he has been road racing since 2019 at WT level...

Finally the real racing will start up again here pretty soon. Lots of stars in the sport right now, but it's a whole different dynamic when MVDP is at the start line.

Some years ago there was live(?)streams of this race, at least on Facebook (PMG sport or something like that). At least some extended highlights were available.
I remember watching it somewhere last year? Maybe only highlights on RAI though.

So Flanders is his third race back - after very little racing since October - and that was after very little racing since the Tour. You'd think that's nowhere near enough racing in his legs.......

However.....

Agreed. At least the Coppi e Bartali race is 5 stages though.

Yes, I know, which was a shortly after the Worlds, and he'd won the Antwerp Ports Classics before that.......

Adrie said his training schedule pre-Roubaix was almost non-existant and all about sparing his back. This week he's been training much more seriously, so those Coppa i Bartalli races + Dwars should suffice to elevate him to competitive form for de Ronde. And perhaps peak form for Roubaix.

Is this a reputable source? Says MVDP calendar now includes the Giro and the Tour, in addition to Coppi e Bartali, DDV, RVV and Roubaix. I haven't seen this news anywhere else.

It's been talked for a while about the Giro.

Today's workout was a bit freakish for a dude jra Spain. It's starting to look like his biggest problem might end up being the usual inability to hold himself back and race "tactically". Obviously this guy loves riding his bike, and is hyper motivated right now - putting in the work on his own while watching his rivals collect palmares. My guess is Tadej is going to have another "moment of crisis" at RVV.

Mathieu Van Der Poel sounds like he’s racing MSR and on the provisional start list according to PCS. I think this might be too early, but also the first 200 km’s are usually a training ride glorified, so he probably is using MSR for that.

Now he’s not scheduled to ride MSR. Guess something to monitor in the coming hours.
