Nah it's fine. The cold was over pretty soon, the coughing is just something that can remain for 1 or 2 weeks in the final stage of a cold.

It's just a bit sad for his own ambitions. He started the TDF near his best but not completely. Then when he was just about to grow into it he got ill. Just before the rest day he gave an interview that he was feeling really fresh and good.. just before his stages, and just at that moment he got ill on the restday.
After that he never had top legs obviously. Still, judging by his mountain stages he wasn't bad by a long shot. Just not that super VDP that you want to have for stages like yesterday.

It could be really good for the worlds though. Just recover from the cough and get the supercompensation legs.

“In any case, I didn't party," he says of the night the Tour ended in Paris. "I went to bed quite early and had an okay night. I am well rested. The World Championships is a big goal of mine this year. Now is not the time to celebrate, it is important to keep the focus for a while." - Hopefully he can hit it hard in Glasgow after the road WC race. You're only young once...

If he podiums in XCC does he get an automatic bump in the XCO grid or does he start from the back in both races regardless?

If he decides to race the XCC, then he has to do the qualifying race on the Tuesday, before the final on the Thursday. That race has no bearing on the XCO race for Worlds...so you don't have to use the same bike, like in World Cups, and he'll still start last.

Will be an awesome week of cycling if MVDP is in for both XCC and XCO. Undefeated in XCC, no? Too much raw power over a 20 minute effort.
His record in XCC is incredible; 10/12 - and hasn't been beaten in it since 2018. I know Schwarzbauer has been impressive, but he hasn't had to face MvdP......
Whether he races the XCC, I don't know, but it's a chance to get some MTB racing before the XCO race.......

after his solo in Sanremo and Roubaix, I’m hoping the same today. Couple of bad luck in previous years. Want to see some peak uphill sprints again.
This!

First season without a bad prep in winter or a crash.
Solo Sanremo.
2nd Ronde. Behind Super Pogi.
Solo Roubaix.
Solo Worlds.

I don’t care about stage wins in the Tour. He did his job for easier Philipsen victories.

This is what counts. He got his revenge for the wet hunger knock where Pedersen won. Always coming back after some bad days. What a rider. Proud to be following him since his first CX races. What a day. I’m so happy.
