Please clarify some things for me. Why didn't Andy wait for Armstrong on cobbles when he flated? Or for that matter why don't they wait whenever a GC contender flats? Do these "unwritten" rules only apply to the Maillot Jaune or to any GC contender? Who decides who is a legitimate contender? You said that these rules apply to a Maillot Jaune wearer who is a legit GC contender? Who decides this? Can you say that someone who can't time trial in the top 20 riders isn't really a GC contender? Why don't these "unwritten" rules apply to other races, the Vuelta, the Giro, my local criterium? Why is it only the Tour? Do we have special unwritten rules for the super bowl or a heavyweight title fight or the world cup? I don't believe so.

So we want more Americans to get into cycling, right? And you really expect that with all these crystal clear "unwritten" rules. Clear as mud, I would say. By the way read Zinn's article on his analysis of the chain drop.

I'm just laying this out there. I am sympathetic to both sides. But "unwritten" rules will always be a problem. Write them down if you want it that way.

Unwritten rules only apply to Andy Schleck. Pay attention will ya, might have saved you from writing such a long post.

this is for anyone stating he needed to stop or not attack.
My question is where do you draw the line, when can you attack and when not.
What about Hushovd or Petacchi getting a mechanical just before the sprint, do you not sprint because they do not get the points? This is quite similar to the case of AS.
What about Charteau's action earlier in the tour when Pineau had a mechanical or a crash or something like that, should he have withheld his attack because his closest competitor for the Polka was down?
How about Chavanal in stage 3?
Gesink's two flat tires today?
The crash of Vandenbroecke on stage 2, prior to the crash creating the neutralization?

.. end of discussion :p:

Maybe in your mind - but not in AC's mind and a whole boatload of cycling fans. Sadly for you and your friends there's such a thing as you tube and spectators that will boo him all the way to Paris. Work on getting rid of the video and the booing and then you can pat yourself on the back. You'll have better luck trying to unring a bell though. Best thing for you and your friends that have a dog in the fight is to stop talking about it so it goes away. People WILL remember this on their death bed regardless of what your heroes say.

Oh look. Speedway is spitting out his dummy again.
Probably all that pent up frustration after today's stage.
Remember on the death bed, huh?
I don't think so.
That would be the Giro's strada bianche or the Mortirolo stage.:)

You cannot draw the line, each case is unique and comes down to the choices what cyclists make. Contador did not have obligation to wait, but some say that it would have been nice and gentlemanly behavior instead of exploiting rival´s bad luck.

But why the debate in this case and not in any of the other cases. Really this is nothing that can be seen as not happening all the time and in all sorts of cases. Why do people have a problem with this and not in all those other circumstances?
Even a lot of ex-riders don't understand what the fuzz is about, it's just something that happens within a race and that happens all the time, nothing really special, with the exception perhaps that this circumstance was seen live on tv

Glad to see you finally learned how to speak for yourself. As for others, as usual, you're reading from the wrong script.

All the debate in this case because for the most part it is the Lance fans who are coming down hard on Contador. Lance has sucked in this his last (god willing) TdF and he is looking at hard times (if not hard time) when he gets home. Dumping crap on Contador is all they have left. One last desperate way of trying to prove that Lance is still greater than all his rivals.

What do you mean? There were plenty of talks after stage 2 and stage 3.

That mainly had to do with the neutralization in its entirety, but I mean all those cases where there is no neutralization, where people attack during crashes, mechanicals and everything. The talk concerning stage 3 was mainly the fallout that came from stage 2

It is funny because some of them were the same guys that were *****ing about the peloton neutralizing the stage to Spa after Schleck crashed, of course cause Lance was at the front.

Give it a few months and we are going to get stupid threads from these guys such as : "Lance announces comeback in 2020 after he finishes doing time in San Quentin"

That's interesting because I've noticed all the Lance haters who normally defend cyclings traditions of fair play, and were keen to say that real fans understood why stage 2 was neutralised, are pilling in to defend Contador. It's almost as they hate Armstrong so much they think by defending every little thing AC does this somehow hurts Armstrong.

I think it's clear you're the guys with an agenda, whereas the ordinary fans are just calling it as it is.

Meanwhile Armstrong himself can't speak highly enough of Contador now their hype war is over. It's ashame others can't be as graceful.

Hi there Welcome to the Forum friend. Could you tell me, are you in favour of allowing pro cycling to continue, or would you prefer to see it **cough** banned?

It is funny read that Gérard Holtz called Contador a great champion.

Great champions play fair, which is of course something Contador does´t even know what it means.

i am in no way experienced cycling fan, i follow this sport less than a year, so this may sound idiotic, but i don't think contador should have waited. i like them both [actually, i like 99% or riders], so i'm sorry that shleck lost yellow jersey like that, but i don't think there should be waiting in situations like that. not because 'shleck didn't wait on stage 3' or something like that. simply, bicycles are part of the sport, if you have a problem with yours, tough luck. i sure hope that that won't be what decided the tour, but i don't think contador did anything spectacularly bad, as most of posters seem to suggest

I agree with you here,100%.

Even though I am more a Schleck fan than a Contador fan.Mostly based on the fact that I always cheer for the underdog.. :D

Unwritten rules? Bad sportmanship? Nice words indeed, but in today's sports it is just that, nice words.

In a race you exploit all weaknesses you can find, and if Andy is so clever that he leaves himself unprotected without assistance when his bike screws up you cant blame it on Contador.I would have gone all in myself.
