Probably because Ineos got better (with the addition of Bernal to the Tour team) and therefore it'll be easier for them to control the race.Lequack said:Wait why did the Tour get worse?
In 2011 (i think) Van den Broeck crashed in the Tour, broke his shoulder, broke some ribs and punctured his lung. About 40 days later he started the Vuelta and finished 8th in the GC. Obviously, it wasn't an ideal circumstance, and i think he would have been on the podium of the TDF that year (so 8th in the Vuelta was merely a consolation), but still, it shows how fast these guys can get back. And Bernal has 60 days.gregrowlerson said:A broken collarbone in early March and you can still be good in the Tour. But in early May? Surely commonsense prevails and Egan gets to focus fully on the Vuelta now. Sky should already have a strong enough team (not to mention 2 leaders) in July.
P.S. Really thought that Bernal was a great chance to podium the Giro. Disappointing that he won't be there.

I can get credit for giving praise while complaining about something.tobydawq said:Red Rick said:Tour and Giro both just got worse.
Hmm, you're implying there would have been something good about them before? High praise from Red Rick.
I guess thats the positive side - he will now most likely do the Vuelta and use the Tour as 'training' while being the 4-5th best climber in the race.Nirvana said:He was already supposed to go to the Tour after the Giro, I don't think that is going to change much, well he could even be a bit worse than expected if the recover isn't fast enough.

How many 22 year olds casually reach top shape in the Vuelta after slaving a Tour?
Vuelta GC will be extremely hard if he rides the Tour. I think his chances of podiuming a GT this year are better in the Tour than the Vuelta. It's not inconceivable that one of Thomas/Froome **** the bed (prolly Thomas) and they keep Bernal up in GC too for tactical leverage etc.
The difference is, I can easily see Bernal finishing off the podium in the tour this year while being the strongest rider. It's simply ridiculous a rider of his caliber is number three in the pecking order for the tour.pastronef said:Red Rick said:He's 22.Valv.Piti said:I guess thats the positive side - he will now most likely do the Vuelta and use the Tour as 'training' while being the 4-5th best climber in the race.Nirvana said:He was already supposed to go to the Tour after the Giro, I don't think that is going to change much, well he could even be a bit worse than expected if the recover isn't fast enough.

"slaving" ahahahha
in any other team we´d praise his work, but no, he will be slaving there. spare a thought for poor Astanas and Sunwebs and Mitcheltons and Movistars riders who had to slave in GTs to help their teammate win the race in the past seasons too
