If Bernal become a Tour winner will Froome and Geraint work for him?
Pretty sure Froome has already worked for Bernal down in Colombia

Not really the same thing though. Helping him at a minor preparation race in February does not equal to helping him in July!

The young, new and hyper talented train is pretty scary, especially the Sosa-Bernal duo. Unfortunately he couldn't drop NQ who basically neutralized him, but I liked his grinta today: he attacked and just went with it for about 5 minutes and once he realized he couldn't, he try to play his cards differently. But Yates is pretty explosive on such finishes, but it was close.

Molina should see a very nice stage since they still need to break De Gendt, so I expect so fireworks like last year where they used the harder part of the climb to create seperation. Either Sky or Movistar, I dno.

I liked the attack with 5km to go. Much more fun that that PN win.

Tactically he could've done a little better. He did a lot of soft pacing the group when he didn't need to and Yates basically outsmarted the hole group in that sprint.

Come to think of it, I think Giro contenders usually aren't great in both TA/PN and Catalunya. Bernal is very good very early this season, and I'm not sure Giro/Tour is where you want him to be. Sky shouldn't even need him, Poels should handle that job just fine considering he's probably not going to the Giro

Bernal to win Giro/Tour facing no burnout because he has been softpedalling around the globe until May, where he really turns a few pedals in anger.
You heard it here first.

I may be the only one who thinks that he seems to be putting in a hell of a lot of effort to win the races he's entered recently and could possibly have a bit of a burn out towards the end of the Giro. Not sure what other races he's got until the Giro but I think he needs to chill a bit, if it's possible for him.

*** brilliant he's already spending prime years on suboptimal prep for GTs so he can be a domestique later on.

Sky would be *** to bring him to TdF honestly, but it wouldn't surprise me. Everything revolves around that race for them. Please no.

Contador did a similar prep in 2015 if I remember correctly, Quintana as well in 2014.

Sky will probably have him cruise with the gruppeto for the first half of the Tour. However, I am surprised he isn’t racing until Giro now.

Bernal arrived yesterday morning to Colombia. He will have a short rest according to the news. The Sky team that will participate at the Giro will be in Colombia shortly training with him. This is the obvious plan since there are three Colombians in that team.

With the way he has been flying all season long and the Giro having a rather easy first half not riding Trentino is probably the right call for him.
He has been fighting for the win in every single stage race until now and would have done the same in Trentino, the risk of him peaking to early and fading durning the 2nd half of the Giro was on my mind. I don't think it's a bad thing.

Confirmed by most sites that Bernal is out of the Giro after breaking his collarbone in a training crash.

Damn. Why couldn't the poster have written that before? I couldn't find any news at all on the subject and didn't know why the sad smiley had its place.

This really sucks.

Sky's Giro luck seems to be passed on to Ineos.

Crap,I guess that's the reason why Sosa, who was training with him in Colombia, is no longer on th provsional startlist for the Giro.

Noo...terrible news. I was so looking forward to see him going against Dumoulin, Roglič, Yates, Nibali and others. Really a shame :(

What is with all these serious injuries from training crashes this year. In past years most of those have seemed to have involved vehicles. This year most are just crashes that don't involve vehicles. This is reminding me of all the non contact major injuries the NHL has seen a huge number of in the past 2 or so years that weren't prevalent in previous years.
Feel badly for Bernal as I do all the other riders how have had serious injuries.
