Pro Tour teams have obligations beyond those to their sponsors.
How so? Beyond their sponsors and an obligation to comply with UCI regulations, who do Pro Tour teams have obligations to?

We know why Astana was gutted. Armstrongs' quest for 8. Radioshack is a support team for Lance. We know that. Giro is an Italian race. We in the US know nothing about the Giro without an explanation by Phil/Paul and Roll. Shack does not have depth for the Giro and the Tour. To send Horner or Levi there as a leaders would be a joke. They would crash and be out. To honor the Giro you send a strong team.

I mentioned Michalob as they sponsored the Crit. I. on Versus. Good coverage I appreciate that.

Purple Bold: If you rely on philbobpaul for an explanation of anything, you still won't know much about it after they are done. :D

Red Bold: If you think Lance walks on water and AC is Lucifer incarnate, then yes, the coverage must have seemed pretty good. Otherwise it's a sad joke. The best part was when Lance put it in reverse on stage 1 and since vs has no control of the camera feed, they had to comment while we watched him get shelled off the back and then get led home at a snails pace by half his team and not one of them daring to cross the line ahead of him. Second best was Liggett's never ending inconsistent/totally wrong statements on the standings in the TT, constantly listing LA as one of the top riders on the stage as rider after rider came in ahead of him, and then a near verbal orgasm when Millar topped AC by 2 seconds.

I like Michelob and mich lite, never tried ultra, but at 64 calories, I can't see myself trying one soon, his Lance-ness notwithstanding. Good beer, good company (at least they were when it was an-busch), spokesman is a has been.

Hope and awareness takes up alot of room. Come on guys, yee are so cynical.

In the way that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez became "Bennifer", from now on I'm going to call Hope and Awareness "Horeness". Therefore LA is on a tour to maximise Horeness.

It works on many levels.

Give or take a W.

I posted this to the wrong thread - it's getting tough to keep track of which battles are being fought where.

Dear Radio Shack Powerhouse:
Here's an example of how teams that care behave.

"With the Giro d'Italia taking place at the same time we had to plan the roster carefully,” said team owner Bob Stapleton. “But we have the depth in the team and two of the fastest sprinters in the world and can send strong line-ups to both of these great events."

The team is registered in the US and one of its main backers, Columbia, is based there. HTC is a Taiwan operation but the US market is very important for it. While the Giro d’Italia is rich in history and is regarded as one of the three biggest stage races in the world, the Amgen Tour of California has rapidly attracted prestige and will this year feature what is probably its best-ever lineup.

http://www.velonation.com/News/ID/3...ers-opt-for-Tour-of-California-over-Giro.aspx

Those quotes are from an article about HTC Columbia sending Cavendish and Rogers to California this year. Rogers finished third last year and should be much stronger now that the race is held in May. Cav will go there for stage wins. The decision is an either/or as to which race riders will do, But Columbia won't stack the deck by also sending Greipel and the strongest GC guys at the expense of the Giro. They'll send strong squads to both, and I'm sure they'll be successful for both. And American viewers will see their sponsor names on camera and in photos for 21 days. They would never have even considered skipping one of the races completely. It's just not done.

And 24 hours or so after the announcement about the seventeen automatic Tour invitations for 2011, Biciclismo has noticed that Radio Shack wouldn't make the cut.

Armstrong's crib for RvV:

read the article in dutch here

It's shared only with Tosport Vlaanderen. The RS team will bring its own water (out of fear of someone spiking his drink), they have hired security personnel with a military background, someone will be in charge of monitoring the cook's work in the kitchen and everyone will have to get a badge to enter the premises.

"Hotel Weinebrugge"

That is funny. Will Lance and shack also bring in Beefeaters and Ravens as official food tasters ala King Henry the eighth? No visene in the cocktails please.

My favorite part was when Phil implied that AC was making up the bit about allergies, claiming that Phil had never heard of such a thing before, when AC's allergies have been well-documented over the years. Versus then went on to behave as if Lance's case of the trots was a very real illness that would still be throwing him off his game this much later, unlike Alberto's phony "allergy" excuse.

Like no other cyclist had ever used gastroenteritis is a phony excuse before - that excuse cannot be doubted. Thou shalt not question the sh!tstorm !!!

You mean the days before people started blowing themselves up in subways?

No, just referring a particular sponsor that wanted its team to use its products, which involved changing the beds at every hotel.

1) Probably experts on what color skivvies Lance is wearing.
2) You just described our Flicker to a T.
3) Gotta take exception to your classification of Michelob in any of its forms as a "good beer". It is a vile pisswater of a beer (IMHO) and I would rather be forced to cheer out loud for Lance than to have to consume any of their product.

pretty much agree with that description

Yes but you have to agree there couldn't be a better sponsor to cycling then a beer company. Unless of course you had the inventor of EPO as a sponsor.

Beer sponsors of cycling teams, Coors Light aka 'The Silver Bullets', Bud Light sponsored teams in the US early 90s. Duvel, a proper real beer sponsoring a Belgian Kermesse team in early 90s.
