I swear that I will not be surprised if Lance get ill in early July...

I really think that he will not race the TdF this year... He's old, fat and is not training hard ... and all knows that how more older you get, more you need to train.. if you want to follow the young guys...

I´ve had the exact same thought for a number of weeks now. Ever since he started skipping European races, changing his training schedule weekly. I July my guess would be some ailment (stomache), injury (back problems) or whatever that will either keep him from starting the Tour or make an easy abandom just before some crucial stage. If he does race the Tour he´ll get crushed and this is one guy who won´t be able to take getting dropped by all the guys he badmouthed the last couple of years.

The comeback has been worth millions, no need to look any further.

i think it's more than that. i think he really believed he could win again. 3rd last year gave him false hope, and i believe reality has finally set in.

it's even simpler than that. his never ending vanity must have put the two and two together like this...

'performances are down, i could climb like sastre without the juice anytime. if i come back in the era of biopassport and with catlin in my bag i can convince haters i was winning clean and fix my legacy for EVER ?

welcome to vanity unlimited, ltd..

We have a winner, that is what I always believed the comeback was about. All of the other reasons made no sense at all. The cancer angle was pushed to the fore to deflect the real questions. If he didnt won, he had the perfect fallback in the 'promoting awareness line'.

And Lance's ball deserves the honor of being named Testicle of the Year. That ***** is working harder than a call girl during the Republican National Convention. Go, nut, go!

Man, the comments at that site are harsh - makes us all look like a bunch of yellow-bracelet-wearing fanboys. Those are not cycling fans either, just celebrity gossip followers.

One of the comments linked to this piece, supposedly written by somebody who claims to have gone to high school with Lance:

Years ago I used to work with a young lady from Texas who also said she went to high school with him, and she iterated the same comments-that Lance was an a-hole and extremely full of himself.

On the tmz/d-listed sites, all you need to do to warrant that kind of scathing bitterness is to be famous, so ultimately, it amounts to nothing despite the accuracy and hilarity of some of its posts.

The sports rant piece sounds accurate, but given all that I know about Lance, I could have written that despite not having ever known him or lived near him. I'd like the writer to prove the personal connection.

This I believe too and it's not because of age per se. Look at Horner riding better than ever and we live in a day in cycling where age seems to matter less and less in both very young and very old talents. I think it's truly that Lance underestimated the current and new generation of cyclists.

Unfortunately that could describe everyone from Cav to Ricco.

What was her name? I went to HS with him as well. Actually raced with him but it was on the track(running).

Btw, the girl in the link from above says he was born in a small town but I'd hardly call it a small town. 5 minutes from Dallas and not very small.

Even more funny is he criticized Contador for living in the same town he was born and surrounding himself with yes men. So what does Lance do when the going gets tough? Runs back home to Momma and surrounds himself with yes men. Oh the irony.

He won't abandon the Tour he'll have to turn it into some sort of "story".

I bet Radioshack are happy with their investment! ha ha :p

Lance, The American Hero! Has more kids than an orphanage.
What's with having a bunch of kids out of wedlock, a new trend I missed out on?

He´s being fruitful and multiplying.

Haha Hog you are such a funny guy:rolleyes: I see you are winding up the same crap you spouted last year before he came third. 'Never were's' like you are just a joke.

Becoming third again will be harder this year I think though, as his results are a true let down... On the other hand we don't know a damn thing about how hard he has already worked for LL in this race, so laughing at the guy is also a bit premature... His results suck though :p

Wat I find remarkable about Armstrong's 3rd place was how unexpected it seemed to me; his detractors seemed to count on him not making the top 10, his fans thought he'd beat Contador. What actually happened seemed the middle ground of everyone's polarized expectations.

If the same would be true this year, he'll finish in the top ten, but never be in competition for the podium. I say he'll end up on 7th place. What's more, it is very well possible that another Radioshack rider finishes higher in the GC, and that Armstrong turns out to be happy with that. It is possible he will get some of the credit for that, just as Pantani did when Garzelli won the Giro.

So that's the scenario I see - no miracle, no crashing defeat, and an effort to put in a good PR performance with success for his team.

Bagster can you explain how "theHog" is "winding up the same crap you spouted last year before he came third" when "thehog" didn't join the forum until 27th July 2009?

Chances are of course Lance dopes, he did during some part of his career, that's for sure. Actually I don't care, but that's just me. And he's even more brave if he's doping now. Only imagine him being caught tomorrow. Hell will break lose.

You completely lost me there.

TommyD dropped LA

From the Velonews writeup of today's Gila Monster stage:

Danielson showed he is in top form ahead of California with a blistering attack that briefly shed Lance Armstrong (Mellow Johnny’s) from the lead chase group on the Sapillo Springs climb, leaving Leipheimer without a teammate on the tough climb.

However, LA made it back:
Armstrong, who rejoined the elite chase group after Danielson’s attack, impressed many by powering the chase group for about 20 kilometers, pulling Leipheimer closer to Lill and the remnants of the breakaway.

Edit, correction: according to the final results sheet, LA finished the Gila Monster stage 3:54 behind the winner. For comparison, Levi and TommyD were 1:03 behind the winner, and DaveZ was 1:08. Floyd was 5:53.
