The difference would be that Hinault was revered by his countrymen for his toughness all around. Someone booing him would be pushed to the front of the barriers so Hinault wouldn't have to chase him.

Looking at it again, and knowing how a mob mentality works, now that folks know he is reactive, look for repeats of this to go berserk. Some blokes live to heckle, and the kind I am thinking of don't shrink away and are not French (no offense to the French on the board).

He has opened up a bad precedent and will be soundly hounded here out. Correction, post Tour de Suisse forward, as the polite and etiquette bound Swiss probably won't draw it out of Lance.

It's not easy to tell from someone's phone, but I'd have to say rumours of Lance's demise based on that exchange are a bit premature.

The Hog and other assorted sycophants in the video seemed concerned about something, though: is it confirmed they caught the guy and got his photo?

It was a perfect opportunity to engage Lance and call his bluff, to see how he would respond to difficult questions in public without preparation. If he could have been rattled he would've hit the deck again. I don't see him staying upright for three weeks in July.

Actually, I've got the strongest feeling the Gendarmerie are going to descend in the days before the Tour when all of the former Astana riders are in France at the same time. I think the blood-transfusion kit affair has been quiet for this reason.

EDIT: come to think of it, that video couldn't have been from AFTER the ToLux as the weather was fine and he got on his bike and rode away. It could have been an earlier incident; maybe he's getting booed and challenging the dissenters all the time?!
