>>This is in reponse to the ToU race. I dont think it should be in that thread, but the anti lance crowd cant help themselves and the mods on this board are, oh I don't know, worthless.<<

Dude whatever. I love this site for 2 reasons. 1)Vino has his own thread where he is rightfully worshipped and 2)People openly bash the great Lance Armstrong here. It's great that there is a place where Saint Armstrong isn't the end all be all of the cycling world. If it offends you so much then leave. Don't read the posts and take your business elsewhere. I'm sure you'll find yourself right at home at http://www.halfanut.com

People should stop for a second and think about why Mr. Armstrong is so disliked. Well, disliked is an understatement, of course, but you know what I mean. The question that is really being asked is whether or not the Lance "bashing" can go too far? I suppose it is a matter of taste, but for me, the answer is a simple NO. There is something very repugnant about Mr. Armstrong that came through loud and clear the year before, when he was "teammates" with Contador. I had respected Mr. Armstrong previously. I didn't understand at first why he was trying a come back, and when I did, I could see it was too late for both me and him. I guess my eyes had been closed and I didn't see. I was blinded by my own illness and thought that, well, here is someone that I could emulate, even at my own stage in life. Gee, how stupid, I loved to ride my bike. I suppose, if I just stopped there, things would have been fine, but no I started to learn about cycling and drugs and things. Not because I wanted to improve my performance much but because I had an appreciation for others that ride well and are serious competitors. But the one thing I could never stand was my own or some one else's cheating. I have to watch myself all the time, and I do, but there were a lot of people that were not watching Mr. Armstrong very well, and he has taken everyone to the cleaners in due course. Personally, I am grateful to the many on this forum that let no holes barred and I could care less if that some of the negative comments about Mr. Armstrong miss the mark. What bothers me the most, as of late, is the the new shtick about "why should we go back in time and spend our money investigating Mr. Armstrong?" Isn't the answer very simple? He is screwing us today, too, with all his generosity by which it seems he benefits the most. I would like to go on about the many ways in which this man epitomizes the frailties of our modern "heroes," but I have to go. What scares me the most, though, is there are so many people who still want to be just like him and defend him to the end. But what I would suggest to these people is that the easiest person to catch in a lie is a chronic liar, and it is only a matter of time before Mr. Armtrong is revealed as such.

Mr. Ruebenr
Lance has been entertaining us for years. Let me remind you of the association of Contador[GRR!!] with a certain Mr. A. Vinokurov. Also Contadors insistence on having his old trainer Mr. Manolo Saiz. Also Albertos old teams, Liberty Seguros Wurth and Discovery. You ever think that Lance might know a thing or 3 about Albertos secret traing poweress.
So before you criticiZe Lance Armtrong as a chronic liar take a look at who he was talking to.
tHAT WILL BE 5 DALLOH PLEASE. No tickie no laundry!

Lance ain't Jesus. I just take from him what I like. The bad parts he can have them. In 20 years we will really know who was the baddest boy of them all. He may not be the worst. The trial thing will prove Lances' character or lack of character. It has been a long time coming.

Care to clarify?

And lets not forget that the same Manolo Saiz trained the "The Hog" once we are at it.

Getting too close to clinic material...

Lance does things for good reason. I liked that he started a new pro team. About Manolo Saiz Liberty Vino I will leave that alone. The only one to listen to is Greg....

When you say "Lance does things for good reason.."

What you really mean is Lance only does things for Lance.

Lance is self-centered I grant you that. I just thought that his TdF09 vile treatment of Contador could have been for reasons other than Armstrongs' intimidation. That is why I say listen to Greg. He questioned El Pistelero about certain activities in the tour during the press conference and Alberto brushed Greg off. I read something into that encounter.

You were asked about Sainz and Contador being in recent contact - so you bring up Greg.

So you think LA might have been worried about his reputation, not wanting to be associated with someone with a questionable VAM? .... This is new.

Anybody hear this on espn radio mike and mike?

Haven't been around much. New job, no time to lounge. Mike and Mike on espn radio around 6 am on my way in to work was talking about Tiger's divorce and has there ever been a downfall in sports like Tiger's, of course they talked about OJ Simpson, and the Mike Golic pulled this out: Could you imagine what it will be Like if Lance is proven or admits to doping. He said it in a tone of what a seismic fall from grace that would be.

Just kind of surprised me to be discussed. He also alluded to how many people used to stand by, support and defend Lance no matter what and now, not so much. The conversation soon went back to Tiger as that was the real topic.

(It was Golic and Eric Kuselias, Mike Greenberg wasn't there.)

Can you imagine if the people who have trashed Armstrong realized what cycling is all about. Denial. The fools the hero worshipers oh the horror.
Guess what? Mike N'Mike gonna half to look at their heros accross sports! Guess what Tiger lovers you taint heard nothing yet. I wish I had had such a sheltered life about the realitys of cycling. Wow I wish I had lived in his sheltered life! I kind of like this new reality. Gonna call some people out, including the haters.

The incomprehensibility of your post is the other reason I don't spend as much time here anymore. I don't even know what you are talking about.

Please dedicate a couple more seconds to your thoughts before hitting submit. The forum is counting on it.

Watched this again. What happened to him? He sounds so humble and human. I like this Lance. He's didn't die of cancer but the humility died within him from the drug use.

Maybe what we don't like today "in" the sport IS (part of) our beloved sport?

Maybe the level of humility you see in Lance c.1997 IS (or was) Lance?

Maybe even humble people can be tainted by what they do, or what they are surrounded by, and maybe it is their choices to do, or their choices to be surrounded, and the experiences that follow, what changes them?

Maybe every time I poke at some lop (publicly or privately) I help 'em along a path thats a change for the worse, even if they're still responsible for making good or bad choices themselves?

The cycle business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side. (with apologies to Hunter S Thompson)
