My god. I guess in someways there may have been a hangover from Festina at the Vuelta. Interesting results. Few carthorse like performances.

Which website do you refer? Who was on the Postal squad?

http://www.sportec.com/www/vuelta98/ingles/main.htm

I alway forget to put the link in...

not sure about full squad but I am sure JV was, and he was last/2nd last on GC, I think CVV as as well, he was many hours down

edit:

201 ARMSTRONG, Lance
202 EKIMOV, Vjatceslav
203 LLANERAS ROSELLO, Juan
204 MEINERT-NIELSEN, Peter
205 ROBIN, Jean-Cyril
206 TEUTENBERG, Sven
207 VANDEVELDE, Christian
208 VAUGHTERS, Jonathan
209 VILLATORO, Anton
D.d. Johnny Weltz

No bruyneel. When did he become a Postal DS?

Did he die btw? It's odd that he hasn't tweeted for 22 hours

Probably a self-imposed blackout period in advance of the opening of his European campaign. Or he forgot his charger/converter for his phone/laptop.

That is the best I could find at that website, and it would appear to be accurate

So far I can confirm

Armstrong, Ekimov, JV, CVV, J C-Robin, Teutenberg, Meinert, Llaneras from the individual stage summaries, the only rider missing is Anton Villatoro

Thanks take back what I said. Lance was climbing with the best doped-Spanish boys and pumping the Festina gang who were waiting for the French judiciary to catch up.

Wish there was some video of him to make some comparisons. To be honest thats some comeback. 1998 Vuelta is Semptember? When was his first race back?

No Hog?

Haha, yeah.

Looks like he won the Tour de Luxembourg overall as well. That's normally in June, and the Cascade Classic was in July last year, so he probably started racing around June-ish 1998.

Actually Lances first race back was in the Ruta de Sol (Tour of Andalucia) Feb 15th - 19th, where he finished a very respectable 15th overall.

However he made this statement..."I noticed that I was becoming more and more tired as the race wore on. I will no longer try to push myself on stage races and to focus on one day races" ...

His next race was Paris Nice - which as we know he abandoned on Stage 2. His team said he had "influenza" - and indeed he still had the "flu" so was withdrawn from the team for Milan San Remo. As any Lance followers will know - he was already back in Texas drinking beer - as reported in his book "Its Not about The Bike".

thanks for the links.

You don't hear the following hero quote been given to the masses however it's the most humbling and real one he's ever said:

On motivation: "It will be harder to keep up my motivation than before. In the last 16 months I found that my life doesn't revolve around cycling and travelling and training. To come back to where I am now and prove that I can be competitive, and potentially very competitive in the future, I've done what I set out to do. That's not to say I'm going to retire on that, but if I stopped today I would be very content."

Llaneras, recently retired, was a great track rider, specializing in points race and madison and also rode a rair amount of six-days. Won two Olympic gold and seven Worlds titles.

Anton was from Guatemala but actually went to college here in the US in Boulder. He raced for 7-UP and I heard he is a race promoter now. Nice guy.

Thanks. Will add that to the “where are they now”? file.

I noticed that USPS lost 3.6 billion last year and have released the financials on Lance’s salary from those days. It was referenced as “stupid financial decisions” that did the company no good.. I’ll find the link.

They did not "Give" AIG 40 billion they loaned it $180 Billion. AIG sold their Asian group for $35 billion yesterday. This will go to paying down the loan which has about $70 billion outstanding.
