A valid one that I agree with.

I don't think he'll finish outside the top ten. No TTT is certainly a disadvantage for him, but if you'd take it out of last year's Tour, he still would have finished in the top 5 or just outside.

I dont' understand why everybody thinks his lack of results are indicative of a poor performance at the Tour. He looks about the same as last year, and the only thing that matters to him is July. One photo taking with his head down while exhaling doesn't mean anything, regardless of what some of the more critical users think.

If this year's Tour was the same route, but no TTT, then I think you make a decent argument for him being top 10. But it's not the same route and there will be a boat load of new contenders to contend with. Right now Im just not seeing the determination to win from him. Maybe he'll get it later, but the guy doesn't talk like a professional cyclist or act like one. Maybe he lights it up in MSR this weekend and puts all of these questions to rest.

But as it stands right now, none of the stuff he and Bruyneel (and Carmichael) about his fitness, weight loss, etc., has proven to be remotely true.

I'll stake my life on it that he won't finish MSR. In fact I'll never post here again if he DOES finish MSR.

He's not in the form to complete a race like MSR.

Now that's Impey next to him who is listed at 70kg, just 1 kg less than Lance. Sure he's 4 cm's taller, but they don't look REMOTELY in the same weight class.

I think that's putting a bit much on it. I'm just curious to see if he's at all competitive this year (he finished 8 minutes back last year).

In that respect, I think you're right, but I think you're only noticing because he, Carmichael, and Bruyneel have hyped it up...much more than last year. I don't really notice much of a difference from this time last year. It wasn't until May during the Giro, when he got that proverbial "spark." This year it will probably be the ToC when he becomes a racer again.

Somehow I doubt that, but if he finishes, maybe we can get a mod to ban you just to enforce your own wager ;)

Susan, care to help us out. You heard it here.

Frankly I don't understand how he could be so fat. I'm an amateur hack with a predilection for pulling an Ulirich in the off-season and even I know it's really not that hard to get lean when you get disciplined about the diet. I know plenty of Masters old guys who are way leaner than he is right now. As a pro cyclist what on Earth could he be doing to get that fat?

Its such a hard race. Its so fast but really really long. If you get dropped early you get swept up in the broom wagon. They have to clear the roads early and have the roads reopened by 5pm. Like I said. He won't finish.

I wonder if I could lose enough in the next month to fit in that jersey!

I'll say it again, if in the back of your mind, you had already considered that you might not be at the tour and treat the rest of your schedule like 'appearances' rather than competitions, what is there to stop you from slacking off?

I am going to try not to sound like too much of a broken record, because if he does compete and do well at the tdf, I am gonna look stupider than usual.

But the Giro would provide a much greater benefit than the TOC. Those extra two weeks of racing would go a long ways towards building the stamina and losing the michelob ultra gut. Not to mention that the Giro would include much more climbing, especially in the high Alps and Dolimites than the TOC, which still has to be organized to be geared towards sprint finishes.

Perhaps if he raced more, he'd look and perform better than when he was 2-3 months out of retirement.

All the chatter post Tour, - not suggesting it was you, iMmac - was that his base level would be way higher in 2010. This doesn't seem to be the case.

talk about surreal, I was joking when I said the mods deleted my avatar, I got a PM from a mod who said it was deleted due to complaints!

I guess the empty suit formerly known as Obama is really starting to grate on the nerves of the true believers.

As I said to the mod via PM: "Orwellian...."

Don't worry kids, I will find one that is at least as offensive. Something tells me the only party offended was a mod.

It's not like the image is out there or that your opinion of Obama is even meaningful--it's just one of I'm sure millions of different and nuanced positions. As political as I am, I've made the conscious decision not to discuss it here since this is a racing forum, not a political one and I don't want that to bleed over into my views of, or otherwise color my discussions, with an individual on these forums.

Until my comment on my last post, I didn't even reveal my opinion UNLESS you go to the obama thread, where my opinion is quite clear, and among cyclists, quite unpopular.

Panties in a wad. If the mods had any sense they'd tell a complainer over the avatar to 'sod off'. As I said, I don't think there is a real complaint.

I have barely even posted in the BO thread in the last month.

Yeah, it was all about having a year of racing, better shape etc, etc yet he doesnt seem to be in any better shaper this year than last time out. I never discount Lance but its hard see how he will improve enough to be a Tour contender. Maybe in his top years but at almost 39 yrs old, its hard to believe. Cant say I will be sad if this proves to be true.

This time last year Lance had yet to break his collarbone - so there is plenty of time to peak for the Tour lol - that is IF you have the experience of Lance.

He has trained for the Tour how many times? The Maestro.

That said - no way he can be competitive with the youngsters. Although I would say he would kick the **** of a 38 year old Alberto or Andy.
