I heard a rumour.

Do tell!

Many of us may be a bit skeptical of your pronouncements because of past experiences, but that does not alter how enjoyable they are to read. Go ahead, spill the beans.

I thought he was trying to get more race miles in his legs?

EDIT: I guess he's all about Different Day Different Story.

RadioShack press officer Philippe Maertens confirmed to Cyclingnews on Wednesday that Armstrong will return to the United States following the French stage race.

- But today is Tuesday?

The article says Tuesday. Unless it originally didn't and was changed.

AWESOME. The commentators and cameras will focus on the actual race for once :)

it's sad that it's come to the point where I'm actually celebrating something that should really be a given for every race.

sigh

I thought they did a pretty good job with the Tour of Flanders. Of course I was watching it in Flemish, but I don't recall them talking a great deal about Armstrong and, but for his brief appearances at the front, the cameras weren't largely focused on him.

I find it odd that he would drop all 3 races, when he added Sarthe because he wanted race miles in addition to those already on his schedule (the Ardennes Classics).

Not sure if I follow. It's all about what numbers?

a) biological passport.

b) VO2 max wattage speed maintained over certain distance

c) recovery over days weeks

d) investments, stock market, new contracts, PR meetings, portfolio

I do not see why he cannot ride the classics, I am very dissappointed.

But Lance is selfish and self centered as most pro athletes are.

a through d can be handled by trainers, computer evaluation, Lances' training.

I personally would have liked to see him ride all the classics. He is a big boy and could handle it without jeprodising his Tour performance. Very dissapointing(to me ) by Lance.

I actually think he doesn't want to have to hit his supply racing against AC (he's still racing, AFAIK, Fleche and L-B-L). But the bigger hit is lack of race miles which he claims he wanted to get more of after Murcia. Whatever. It won't make a difference in the long run any way.

Nope, he's not racing Fleche and LBL. He's going home to the US on another long-haul flight. In fact, Lance and Bruyneel both have tweeted about having picked up some kind of stomach virus at Flanders (most of their team is supposedly sick, so I guess Lance's ultra-secure hotel-fort didn't protect him from everything). Do not be surprised if LA quits Sarthe and heads home early, if he is truly sick.

My guess is that he will rack up some appearance fee money in the US, riding Gila and ToC, and appearing on TV, raising some money for himself however he can.

Meanwhile, AC will be riding Fleche and LBL without the distraction of more LA showdown hype.

I'll be deeply dissapointed with Pro-Cycling these days if Armstrong is capable of being in the Podium of the Tour de France this year. It would be embarrasing for the rest of the riders in the Pro-Peloton.

Is he even racing this year?

That's a fact, jack. They all have good doctorin' so the younger generation has no excuse. His racing program does seem to be about exposure to the US market as much as possible rather than facing any particular opponent.

Oh the horror, the horror. One Knows of the cobbles after a dry race when after a week you are still cleaning out of your ears and coughing up the dirt after a dry race. Trust me folk. Its a real man race. To race in this region and you do not come from it especially in the rain is hell. Keep off those cobbles, keep to the side, grass verges, footpaths if possible. Its got to that point.

Was you there in 88 pmcg76 :)
are you the actual Acacio Da Silva? just wondering.

What nerve he has! Raising some money for himself! *******!

“Everybody in cycling has a team and takes a team salary,” he says. “I am essentially racing for free. No salary. No bonus. Nothing on the line.… This one’s on the house. And you know what? At the end of the day, I don’t need money.… Not only will I be fine, my kids will be fine, my grandkids will be fine.”
