It is not about Lance. It is about an icon in cycling. I loved Merckx. Lance uh you know the story. Gotta get some excellent athletes who can cycle win talk and have bling like Lance. Until then it is still Lance. The Eurps Know it and us gringos over here know it. One of the facts of life.

This is YOUR opinion, which is clouded by a seemingly relentless drive to deify your hero as if he should also be everyone elses'.

That is the problem when you have a guy like Armstrong suck all the air out of the room.

He is yesterday's news. He has been a non-factor all throughout his comeback. The only ones who've been excited by all this are the fanboys, who thoroughly lack any type of reasonable perspective on their man-crush.

By the third week of July he'll be gone. No more Lance. Meanwhile, real riders will still be out there training and racing and the sport will move on without him.

THAT is the only fact of life that remains pertinent in this case.

Ok guys I think its time for me to tell you a little story.

When I first got involved in cycling back in 2000 I saw this guy Lance who had had cancer and only had one nut and he was kicking the bums of people from countries that dont really exist (who's really ever been switzerland?) . I was like wow this guy has to be jacking something serious. But then I looked into cycling and saw all these cheaters who have ruined cyclings name, guys like Auntyquil, Mercks and Greg Lemon. Then I realized that Lance is doing it clean, he doest want to associate himself with these kind of people. He is better than that, he wants to show all those cancer sufferers that he can defeat cancer and germans without using drugs.

People who hate probably dont even own bikes they just sit on the interwebs and type bile (im standing as I type). The more I ride the more I like Lance because he has shown me that through cycling a balding middle age man can still pop one of the Olsen twigs. Ive been riding ten years and so far I've managed to get Bob Saget and John Stamos so I'm on my way.

You may have forgotten but lance placed 3rd last year in the TdF. I know that is an easy fact to ignore, but nevertheless, it is a very relevant fact. Add that to the fact that he has won 7 TdFs previously, whether you like it or not, he is still very much a factor.

So do you think "real riders" like contador or shleck or menchov or evans think he is a non-factor?

Just because you vehemently hate him doesn't change reality.

And what exactly do fanboys like you know about reality?

The reality is that Armstrong got mushed to that third place spot last year by Bruyneel and his merry band of domestiques, who set the pace at the front and glass-cranked it so grandpa wouldn't get dropped.

Something not that difficult to accomplish when your director sportif decides to break the one golden rule of pro cycling of throwing the support and resources of the team behind the strongest rider.

By the way, for your information those 7 Tour wins are about as tainted as any sporting achievement of the last 100 years.

The only reason Armstrong is a factor isn't because he's such a great rider, it's because of the massive amount of dope he and his team ingest.

Is this something you feel so proud of you must go on the internet to defend?

I wonder how it's possible for Armstrong's legion of blind fanboys to type with a seeing-eye dog. How do you say "fanboy" in braille?

The strongest riders always rise to the top in the TdF.

And cmon, when are guys like you going to realize that almost all top riders dope during at least some point in their career. Statistically if Armstrong never doped, he would be an anomoly. At this point enough of them have been caught that it is pretty obvious.

Good one, that is actually pretty funny. But truly the same could be said about the hateboys like yourself. Try taking a more objective perspective.

I already mostly do #1 (it's clear after a few lines) and it's just not my way to be a fan boy. Every athlete has faults

Without even having seen this I was considering starting a thread for funniest posts, or hall of fame posts, or just, post of the day.

Whatever the thread, this is a nominee.

I wonder why there isn't "the official ALBERTO CONTADOR thread 2010" with over 250,000 views. He strikes me as similar to Lance in that he is a multi-TdF winner, he's dominating at the Tour, and he's arguably a product of the Johan Bruyneel machine (hap-hit to all you clinic specialists). The fact he's contesting/winning some Classics should also increase his fan appeal.

Wait, maybe it's because he doesn't show much personality or charisma in interviews, hasn't overcome a disease that kills millions annually, and needs 5 more TdF victories (let alone consecutive victories) to demonstrate an equal ability to dominate the sport's most prominent contest.

Or maybe it's because he isn't a douche?

We have quite a few Cav threads as well (just saying).

And he's not a native English speaker? This site is in English, just in case anyone hadn't noticed.

My guess is that there are Spanish fan sites that discuss Contador ad infinitum.

Armstrong is also an international star who has appeal and impact beyond his sport. Makes Contador less controversial right off the bat. That and the fact that he's not a douche of course...
