He wasn't exactly in the Autobus on Stage 7. And I certainly wouldn't underestimate him. Landis was allowed to get away on Stage 17 because no one considered him dangerous. Interesting to read that the rest of the peleton doesn't consider him a threat. So if he attacks tomorrow early will they just let him go or chase him down? What do you think?

Will Lance try to get in a break tomorrow? Arguably, being up ahead on the Madeleine to help Levi later is a good excuse.

If so, will Lance be allowed to get in a break tomorrow? Or will the other teams try to chase him down? Why or why not?

I'd like to see him try and get dropped by Moreau or Le Mevel, or Moinard or basically anyone from his group :p

With the rest day today, Astana's mountain goats will be fresh and will be capable of protecting Contador tomorrow.

Vino has shown that he is both a strong team player, and has the latitude to mix things up. When he took that little flyer yesterday (that the Magpies were sure was a sign of him going off the reservation), he was throwing out a test pattern to see who had legs to join him. He wasn't trying to ride away from AC, he was sacrificing an attack to see who was fresh and would counter - so the Astana boys could see who was there to play.

I think Vino would be happy to chase down Armstrong and do wahtever he has to to ruin his chances.

You guys are talking like getting into the break and winning a stage is an easy thing. Many riders try and hope every day, but very few succeed. You need experience and the right mindset. If your mindset for years and years was the one of a GC rider, you won't have an easy time to switch to opportunist, putting your nose into the wind, and being constantly on the watch for attacks. And that's not even taking into account that someone or some team might not let you escape. I think the hunt for stagewins is going to be a pipedream.

No sh*t. You have to be up front and aggressive and LA may be all out of Texas whoopass. If he follows a group he'll have a shot but that just puts him and that group up the road to be caught at the appropriate time. Would he work if Vino went with him? That'd be interesting.

Yeah, I see these predictions that he'll go for a stage win, and someone even asked Andy about the two teams working together and him gifting Lance a stage win in return. WTF? Andy has one stage win and people ask if he'll start doling them out?
Tuesday there is a Cat 2 & 2 Cat 1 climbs before the 27 kilometer climb up Col de la Madeleine. BMC needs to protect the jersey, Andy will end up riding the wheels of anyone he can find, and guys who dropped behind a bit in the standings will try to take some time back. Would BMC let Lance get away in a break or an attack? Doubtful. Would Lance be willing to trade turns for a hundred miles with a couple of French guys and riders chasing sprint or KOM points? I'd love to see it. Will we see him with the back of his jersey stuffed with water bottles for the rest of the team? lol

He did domestique for Levi at last years Giro, and was involved in breakaways at the Tour down under this year.

I don't think he will be in any mood to go for a win tomorrow on the hardest mountain stage. This will be a great chance to save some energy against the race leaders to use on another day. That's how you win stages.

Aren't you talking about a guy (maybe "old") who nailed three stages in a row in the high mountains? Thats probably NOT the "GC mindset" you're referring to 'zactly, is it?

And you suggest that's what's going to happen? I take it you saw the stage yesterday? He's not going to take a stage out from the MJ group as Andy did, because he won't be in that group. The only realistic way to take a stage is as an opportunist.

ETA: eh whatever, dream on, fanboy

No. That was a GC guy, deleted by mod delivered to serious climbs by a team that did what you saw Astana do yesterday. That's 'zactly what Armstrong would have to overcome to get a stage win unless he loses another 20 minutes and goes on a flat stage with 2 French guys (that sounded good) and none of the sprinter's teams want to get them.

I think one of those French guys would beat him to the line. Without the go go juice, Armstrong is not the rider he once was. The French are used to racing unassisted.

I must admit to being a bit disappointed that LA is not in the race any more. No way did I want to see him win but it would have been good to see him dangle a minute or two off the lead for another week and get smashed trying to catch up in the mountains but fail and fall back another 20 or 30 seconds each time until he was 5 minutes or more back and totally destroyed.

He may yet show up for a stage win if he gives himself a few days to recover.

This is what would have happened if he had not given up yesterday. When he saw that he was in trouble, he decided to pack it in, lose lots of time, and blame his crash. Chris Horner in his blog says that Armstrong gave up once they reached the peloton and he found out how fast they were going.

Just a dumbass remark on your part, and the "fanboy" comment betrays you're simply a hater, nothing inherently wrong with that but why not be honest about simply that? No need to slam strangers as "fans" just because they mention LA. This is after all, an LA thread, isn't it? LA is old, anyone with two functioning braincells can see he's done this year, and may even abandon (you'd like that too huh I bet) ... your perspective about him bein done sure isn't special knowledge by a longshot. Doesn't matter if he cooked, crashed, or sat up, he's just done. We'd all be surprised if he pulls anything more that is "GC." BUT...the point I was trying to make (maybe you need more than 2 braincells to get it?) is that some other lop's idea of "a GC rider" doesn't not incorporate what LA did with the three mountaintop stages some YEARS ago. THAT isn't what GC is today no matter what sort of team there is behind/in front of. NO one does it that way anymore. And THAT is why labeling the old one as a GC rider is somehow ... well ... suspect.

Well, maybe we'll see Berto's team (with or without Venial-kurov)help him along that way to two or three mountain stage wins in a row too. Or not. Prolly won't see Schleck and his team do it either. Or maybe they will? My interest is in seeing how long the current world champion keeps the yellow. That jersey can do special things for a rider...and the yellow can add to the effect ;-) Mountain stages or no.

Vino would chase him down, and if he managed to join a break with Vino in it, he would drop Tex like a bad habit. would be entertaining though.

From here on in im predicting a travelling roadshow with baby kissing, amends making and a big show on one stage of helping Leipheimer...i can just imagine P&P "now this ladies and gentlemen is a sign of a TRUE champion" cue nausea.

Or such gems as "Second is first loser".

So if second place is first loser what does that make Lance? C'mon fanboys this is fun! Get into it ...
