Didn't see Moser much, how did he finish?

I think we shouldn't overestimate the average quality of the italian riders.
We were in every break. We let other teams control the race.

I'm not sure what else we could expect from the likes of Gatto and Paolini. Attack with 4 laps to go?

Nibali should have attacked before, that's ok. But he probably wasn't feeling that well. He didn't have the legs he had in spring.

People did mark his moves pretty quick, like when he attacked people got on his wheel and they weren't pulling through despite him gesturing to them to do so.

He pulled strong just before the last Cauberg. Then soft pedalled till the end to finish 2 and half minutes behind.

Everybody knew he was gonna attack. That's what happens when you have a great year in the Monuments.

Maybe he could have avoided the "Wiggins won the tour only because of the parcours " part, since that's the only reason why he won the Giro in 1984

it shouldn't be taken too seriously, tho comment on wiggins despite being rather idiotic coming from him taking into account the 84 giro it doesn't become any less true.

besides with ulissi, moser, aru, cattaneo, felinne and trenti (+ some others) italy has a tremendous amount of talent coming trough and many of those guys will have the classics as the main focus.

I'd say there's LOTS of potential in one day races, and even now the situation isn't so bad. Was it better in the nineties? It sure as hell was, but the entire peloton composition was different.

What's more, Di Rocco didn't actually help the movement, all the opposite.

I'm more worried about the lack of GT riders right now, because I don't see a lot of potential from that point of view...maybe Moreno Moser will develop into one but who knows?

As Zam said, Amstel is not a monument.
Pippo and Ballan are good riders, I'm not saying they aren't. They lack consistency though. They rarely deliver when they're expected to.

Di Rocco, don't even get me started on the topic.

Moreno has a lot of potential. Not sure he might develop into a stage race rider though.

Agostini ( potential wise seems good )/ Caruso could be good (thanks to continued Cannondale development and could win Giros'- Caruso could have won the white jersey if he did not have to ride for Basso) and Aru can certainly win if a GT if it is hilly enough.

Moser would probably be good at GTs (at least the Giro) because he has some pretty killer acceleration on short climbs. I think he will have another good season, because he will have more leadership opportunities and a race programme more tailored to the races he is good at.
