This has been in the cards for quite some time, unfortunately.

His 2012 season was the stuff of legends. I've always liked him since. I loved how he had a bit of that old-school Frank Vandenbroucke swagger, attacking in the drops and pushing a big gear.

His kick to catch Henao in that Tour of Poland stage was absolutely insane.

I appreciate his honesty in interviews, too. But it's a real mystery why he hasn't performed at all the last few years. It doesn't seem like the motivation has been lacking, he's not been ill apparently and I'm not aware of any Oliviano Locatelli situation with his amateur team(s).
