Still doing fine.

It was a tough day which can expose the odd weakness on the day.

Lets see how he performs after the 3rd rest day.

One hell of a test on Tuesday.

One bad day on Zoncolan or on Tuesday can mean minutes. I don't think he's prepared for GTs yet. He was strong till today, but looks to start fading.

So can we conclude the same for Pozzovivo then? And Evans?

True, but the chances of Pozzovivo cracking big time are lower than that of Kelderman doing this. And by big time I mean minutes. Also, Rolland is looking good for the last week and the 1:43 margin to WK is recoverable. Kelderman may very well finish 8th. I'll still be impressed by his performance whatever happens in the third week though.

His goal was a top-10, which should definitely be within his reach. For a rider who has the profile of a TDF rider rather than a Giro specialist, I still think he's doing quite well. This Giro is a pure climbers race, and he'll probaby finish in the lower reaches of the top-10. I for one didn't expect that, considering how he cracked on the very first mountain stage last year.

But he held on and finished with Pozzovivo, Kiserlovski and Evans. Not that bad.
If he doesn't get an off-day, he can finish in the top 8.

I wonder what if Niemiec, Purito, Ulissi, Sioutsou, Scarponi etc. were still in the race.

Pick the rider two riders that certainly don't belong in that list

:) why is it such a bad post?

Mollema, Contador, Froome or Wiggins were never part of the race.

Yep but today he was better than Majka and Aru. But the Zoncolan is not his kind of climb I fear.

He's only 40 seconds off. But from the men in front of him Pozzovivo, Aru and Majka are too good I think.

I don't think Majka is better than him. Pozzovivo and Aru maybe, but they're inconsistent too.

I think he's going to drop significant time in the MTT though. It's clear one-mountain stages aren't his thing. Montecampione proved that.

An MTT should be his worst enemy. The multi mountain stages might save a nice top 5 tho. I can see Evans collapsing further and Uran looks worse by the day. Majka wasnt convincing today either

I think you're just looking for reasons why he will fail. It's clear Montecampione was just a bad day, in that one-mountain stage won by Matthews he was perhaps the strongest man in the race.

Also, he rode top-15 in an MTT in his very first GT, way ahead of Evans (for example). It's basically a cr.p shoot, bad days can happen to anyone at anytime. If I had to pick the worst possible stage for him, it would be the Zoncolan one.

You're thinking the kilo's working against him on Zoncolan?

Could be. I hope his gearing choice is correct, today it looked to be on the heavy side for the final K
