Long flat out TT like this arent flukes or even brief glimpses of talent.
You need to be really powerful and strong to put in a good result and he showed today that he was the 4th best in this field in terms of raw strength and capability.
I would call that pretty impressive and surely a sign of things to come.

Joe Dombrowski, take a look at this year's ToC, especially the Mt Baldy stage.

Anyway, epic ride by Kelderman, didn't know he had it in him on such a long TT. Always thought of him as more of a prologue specialist which ironically he did worse in than today though he did mention that he was bummed he had to ride on wet roads. He's still just 21, who knows what other joys he will give us in the - near - future.

Ah ok, yeah I actually watched it live, just didn't know who he was talking about.

He looks like a scrawny guy, Kelderman, but appearently he has the power

He is scrawny. 63 kgs. That's why it's strange he can TT so well.

Well his w/kg output is extremely good. If he has a good position...

Doesn't contador weight 60kg as well?

Slightly more, I think. 62/63 kg. Richie Porte as well. And Leipheimer.

But Kelderman is taller than those guys.

I don't see why longer length and same weight as guys who are 10cm shorter should be a negative factor.
As long as the weight he has = muscle => power

That's not what I mean, I mean those guys are probably naturally more aero. Generally tall, slim climbers aren't the best time trialists.

Van Hummel was just pathetic and if he would've taken himself seriously, he would've pulled out after the first mountain stage.

So it's pathetic to go beyond your limits to finish the biggest race in the world and maybe get a couple of other chances in a sprint:rolleyes:.

That's way he's a pro rider, and why you're whining at a forum. What a retarted comment

What a ridiculous comment. It would've been a lot more pathetic to pull out as you suggest, as we've seen many sprinters do over the years.

You're probably right. But Van Hummel riding the Tour is like an amateur player playing with the national Dutch squad on the European Championships. Admirable, but a bit hopeless. And therefore, in my book, pathetic. But I'm perfectly fine with other people thinking otherwise.

But the point is, he wasn't the worst rider in that TDF. Yes, if everybody who's worse than you abandons, eventually you'll be the worst. But is that pathetic by Van Hummel, or by the Napolitano's of this world?

Well, alright, I'll give you Napolitano, he was horrible too, although of course he was in conflict with his team and denied a place in the Tour team till shortly before the race. Still, that was not majestic to see either.

But any rider finishing 10s of minutes behind the bus is pathetic. We all laugh at Cav when he does it, right?

For once I agree with you. Kenny showed character by continuing to fight.

I don't watch top sport to see character only. Character is fine, but it should be combined with class. Van Hummel wasn't good enough for the Tour. I don't see why he should be a hero for it.

Princess Zelda did show very good promise today.
Question is whether he will start sucking one day or not. Exciting times ahead.

Not a hero. A fighter. And being a fighter is not pathetic.

Wilco 50m beyond the finish line at Baldy...

...didn't even look too bothered after the stage. Drank a Coke and then he was off to the podium to pull on the young rider jersey. Glad I got to see him racing.

Being a fighter is not pathetic. Being a fighter on a level where you don't belong is.

Anyway, enough of this, Kelderman is way better so let's focus on him.

Gotta hand it to Arnout, Van Hummel does suck.

I concur, his showing in the Tour wás heroic (it looked cool and I liked it as well), but I can understand how some people may find it pathetic, mostly because when you look at it from a different angle, it ís pathetic. He didn't really look like a pro at all and the Tour is still the largest stage for pro riders in the world.

Let Arnout have his opinion, it's not a ridiculous one at all. Most of us like heroism and especially those underdog loser heroes, but that does not mean everyone has to like it.

Hell of a ride. He's now shown glimpses that he can climb among the best, and he can TT among them.

Believe the hype.

We'll see. He was impressive today, no doubt about it. How will he do on stage 6 though?
