Austrian commentator just said Cancellara would have preferred a flat course where he could win in a bunch sprint...
And he just said "this is Ian Stannard, the famous sprinter...

France keeping a very low profile so far. I wonder if a couple of their riders and Belgium will try to get into a break on the first run up the main climb - when Spain, Italy and GBs workhorses will be already on the limit.
They have no reason to show themselves now. Barguil will probably be the first to go in the wind.
Of course not, but it still puts them in a strong position. They'll have five men still to create some chaos on the main climb if they want, while the other big teams will be down to three each probably.

We have four riders, since Belgium finished ahead of us in the 2015 WT standings.

I wonder how Vuillermoz will be used since Bardet and Alaphilippe are co-leaders.

The race is really gaining in prestige.
It's not just about names competing for the medals, look at the composition of early breakaway as well.

Ah, good point :) I'd like to see Vuillermoz go on the attack on the first time up the climb - try to form a break with some other strongish riders. Bardet could try to attack over the top of the last climb and on the descent, and Alaphilippe stay with the main front group in case of a sprint. Doubt the race will go so predictably though.

Great scenery, a hilly road along the coast can be beautiful

Not so much fun when you're being driven along it by a mad cab driver smoking endless L&Ms and singing along to Samba songs......

Good guys Czech Republic. Would've been great to see something like this sooner, or if there were cobbles later on too.

Flanders Olympics 2024 please

Winter or summer, it doesn't make a lot of difference there.

i have a feeling that some big name didn't foresee the cobbles issue and might get dropped at the wrong time...
