Jim Elliot rode aero bars before Greg...84
Pete Penseyres rode aero bars before Greg....86
And Lance rode aero bars before Greg...87

Greg owes part of his very narrow victory in 1989 to those pioneers..
Never heard him thank those guys lol. Tries to take credit instead.

So what you're saying is:

Lance was not the first triathlete to use aero bars.
Lance was not the first pro cyclist to use aero bars.
He did, however, use tri bars before they were common in the pro péloton and was however the first person who had used aero bars whilst a triathlete to later go into pro cycling once other pro cyclists had used aero bars, so therefore he deserves the credit for something other people were doing before him both in triathlon and in pro cycling.

As long as I'm aware we're rewriting history, I'd like to say that Robert Gesink invented the modern TT position.

There were a couple RAAM riders who used aero bars before Lance.
I never said otherwise....

And there were a select few tri-athletes who used aero bars before Lance...barely
Again, I never said otherwise.

My point is (and has been) that there are NO euro pros who used aero bars before Lance.
Lance used them before ANY euro pro. He used them before Fignon, Greg, or Gesink.
Numero Uno. Grand Poobah. The Big Kahoona.

But it does not hurt my feelings if you want to think some other euro pro was the first. No biggie.

Thats a point??!!...that he used tri bars in a differant sport before anyone else in a sport were there use wasnt allowed?.
Thats a tottaly and utterly rediculous "non point" ..to be expected by someone so utterly pointless.
I once wore Speedo`s at about 8 yrs old...long before any triathletes did..does that count as a point?:D

FAILED.

But the first guy wasn't Lance, was it?

No it wasnt Lance

Lance copied a fellow triathlete and rode it as a 17 year old junior in 1987. He then used that position again even though Lemond , Boardman were pro riders using it before him in bike races. I think what Polish is trying to say is Lance was the first of the bike racers that used that/those positions out of all of them even if it was in a triathlon.

Sorry for banging on about Obree earlier, but yeah, I still reckon skiers were responsible for these ultra low profile positions but who knows.

Was there another triathlon competitor who made it over to europe as a pro in that era?

It's a silly point... but even that point may not be correct if another tri competitor used the bars before Lance did and ended up in Europe riding for a pro team.

Well done, we're working in facts here.

He did. But he wasn't a Pro Cyclist when he was using them. Until other people - such as Fignon and Greg - had already used them. Therefore he wasn't first, no? He can probably legitimately be called 'the pro cyclist who used aero bars at the earliest date', but not 'the first pro cyclist to use aero bars' because he wasn't a pro cyclist when he first used them.

Lemond SHOULD have worn a speedo/mankini during his 1989 TT.
Pay homage to the tri-geeks he was imitating....

That infamous "Day of the Tri-Geek" TT destroyed the elegance of the Cowhorn era forever.
Came crashing to the ground.

Some say Euro Pro cycling started to decline soon after that TT.
Influence of the tri-geeks?

There IS a reason hipsters ride cowhorn's and NOT tri-bar's you know.
What is Hip. Tell me if you think you know.

No sir, the only thing Polisher is really trying to say is 'I really got you guys going again didn't I'. Well and also 'I want to have Lance's love child'.

You are wrong. It was Frank Schleck. Nobody TTs like Frank Schleck.
