how is bastian doing?.... when will he be back?

Will be back in about 4 weeks and starts light training then.
He even screamed because of pain, taken to hospital while screaming. Serious injury. :D

Well, as a cycling fan, I just had to smile a little bit, even when it was not nice to watch.

Told some friends (who are generally bored by my "hard man of cycling"-stories"),
that if that was a cyclist, he would have finished the stage and been back on his bike few days after incident and racing again 2 weeks later. :D

When footballers get hurt, they look for their mum - a pro cyclist looks out for his bike.

van bommel....getting special treatment(playing him always) coz he is the son in law?

Van Bommel gets special treatment for being the nearest thing to a good old fashioned footballer the world has seen since Paolo Montero retired. "I'll take the ball. Or the player. I don't really care."

I expected such a defeat @Germany-Holland. We missed Van Persie, Van der Vaart, Robben and Afellay. The strength of Holland is to keep the ball in the team and to reposses it when it's lost. But with a dramatic Kuyt (doesn't play in Liverpool), Babel (he's just too bad), Braafheid (idem dito), Huntelaar (he was useless in this match) it's impossible to beat a good Germany.

We only have really talented players in the front and to win Euro 2012 we'll need them. I also hope Nigel de Jong will get more minutes at Manchestery City, he was bad against Switzerland and Germany (3-0 lol). It's required to have a good De Jong for our defense. I don't like our current DM's/CM's Van Bommel and Strootman. Van Bommel isn't that good any more, Strootman is a very talented player but not good enough yet to be in the first eleven.

Well, at least I hope the Germans will overrate theirself now and underestimate Holland. That's the only thing this match could be good for.

collarbone, probably 6 weeks still. I dunno.

I consider myself a bayern fan if I had to sup[port anyone in the champs league.

and possibly returns to being injured the week after :S....great player though, better than ribery in my opinion

IMO he can be one of the best players in the world when fully firing, cause when he is good he is very good. game changer.

certainly feels like he is a player from a different generation. Probably played his best football at psv. Was not bad at bayern either.

By the way the English won again, against sweden..i hope the english media dont go all " we are gonna win the euro"..... as they tend to do.

Regardless of results they always get labelled favorites. Gotta be one of the most overrated national teams going around.

France have to be the most boring team in the world right now. I can't believe I stayed up to watch that match.

Also, is the afro the trademark Belgian hairstyle now with Witsel and Fellaini? I now wait for Vermaelen's afro.

Oh how I despise the french team. Hope they crash and burn at another tournament.

You know, it's quite surprising Belgium aren't some what more competitive, they have some decent players.

Van Bommel is one of the few proper footballers out there today. Unafraid to hurt people or be hurt. It's a contact sport! He's part of a dying breed, and we should be protecting the players like him, to ensure that real football continues to live on to the next generation. It's an art form, what he brings to the game, and more valuable than any evanescent wonderkid pulling off trick shots.

Only he and Gattuso still know the art of avoiding yellow cards ( let alone red cards ) with bonebreaking tackles. A rare species indeed :).

Jesus, where to begin...? I can't be bothered quoting umpteen posts. So,.....

'Lothar' van Bommel is by far the player most widely hated by Dutch football fans. I'm not talking about the people who paint their faces for friendly internationals, but real club fans and people who play every weekend. Van Bommel is a nasty, horrible, cheating piece of slime, whose extended run in the national team is entirely down to the fact that his father-in-law picks the team.

I fully expected this Dutch team to lose to Germany, doesn't bother me one bit. Lothar's father-in-law, van Marwijk, has been incredibly lucky to get as far as he has with this group of players. I lost any respect I ever had for him when he had his players go out and kick in the WC final.

Blatter is a poisonous and corrupt slug, who really should have been squashed years ago. Sadly, he continues to get away with running FIFA like his own kingdom.

But what I really want to rant about is the treachery that took place at my second club tonight. I'll try to nutshell what happened without the details that would send non-Ajax fans to sleep -

Johan Cruijff, who was coaxed, urged, and asked to come back to Ajax in some capacity last year, in order to halt and reverse the steady decline of the club - was tonight stabbed in the back (figuratively) by the four other commisioners, who announced the appointment of Cruijff's enemy of more than 20 years, Louis van Gaal, as the new General Manager of the club, starting next summer.

Evere since van Gaal was fired from Ajax the last time (as TD), he has bad-mouthed the club in public and said there was no way he would ever return, and most certainly not if Cruijff was there in any capacity. He is a lying, arrogant opportunist, who has allowed himself to be used as a pawn in an internal power struggle.

The vast majority of Ajax fans (who write on internet forums) are appalled, ashamed, and very angry about what has happened tonight. There are likely to be serious vocal outbursts at this weekend's home game, especially if Cruijff turns up in person.

In essence, a war has been started. Cruijff looks like he has been 'played offside' at the moment, but Johan is a resourceful and vindictive man, who will not take this lying down. I see all elements of a Greek tragedy here, and I predict that all sorts of heads will roll over the coming weeks and months. Just what a club that's already in trouble on the field really needs.

van Gaal is a hack, I was thrilled when he finally left the dutch post. I was a fan of Frank Rijkaard, he was right tho, if you can't win with that sqaud what's the point. Italy VS Ned 2000 still haunts me. Never have I seen a team dominate so much to lose in penalties. I'm sure we would have sqaushed france.

van Marwijk is nothing special either.

Like I.Harm said tho, Holland really rely on midfield / forwards on controlling a game.

Funny, you told me off for criticising Barcelona using the same kind of language.

Van Bommel may be lucky to keep getting picked, but it's nice to see people like him and Gattuso still have a place in football. The dive is no longer seen as a cynical piece of cheating as it was 20 years ago when Klinsmann was doing triple saltos, but as an appeal to the referee the second there is the slightest amount of contact. Van Bommel harks back to the days when, if a player was rolling around on the floor in pain, it's because they were hurt.

He's oafish, unstylish, sometimes ill-tempered and unrefined. But I wouldn't trade that; I like the variety, and for all the lightweight silky-skilled distributors of passes, you sometimes need an enforcer to protect them and cut the opponents down to size. Is it cynical? You bet. But it happens, and van Bommel's one of the best at that role.

as much as i dislike a few of your players (if I was given the chance I'd love to slap both ronaldo and nani in the face lol), the euros are better with Portugal's inclusion.

love euros. can't wait.

And what a terrible indictment of the modern game, eh? I hate diving, I loathe it. I hate it when van Bommel and Robben do it, I hate it when Alves, Busquets or Pedro do it. What I dislike most about van Bommel is that he is, what we call in Dutch, a 'maatennaaier' - that is, a cheater who gets other players carded and sent off by play-acting. I don't mind hard and I've always admired Gattuso; I understand the need for such a type of player too, but you can be hard and honest as opposed to hard and a cheat.

Euro seeding:

• Pot 1: Spain, Holland, Poland*, Ukraine*.

• Pot 2: Germany, Italy, England, Russia.

• Pot 3: Croatia, Greece, Portugal, Sweden.

• Pot 4: Denmark, France, Czech Republic, Republic of Ireland

I can see it already.. Holland, Germany, Portugal, France.

I hate it and always have done, and I especially don't like it when somebody like van Bommel or Drogba do it because they're clearly big enough to handle themselves and aren't averse to roughing a few people up.

What I like about van Bommel is how he doesn't care if he rubs people up the wrong way. I don't like the 'try to get a player booked/sent off' style, the kind of thing Rivaldo is rightly derided for. But I do like the "if he's going to writhe around on the floor and dive, I may as well give him a reason to be writhing around on the floor" side of his game.

Drogba has had some pretty cringe worthy moments :D Anyone remember when him and lehman pushed aeach other, emarrasing moments for football.

Say what you will about Van Nistlerooy but I loved his attitude on a pitch.
when he socred that goal against andorra, his goal celebration so friggin funny.

You're back. Did you get those people trying to kill you?:D

France to win the Euros, they're so boring the opposition will fall asleep.

Sunday, the 20th of November, the biggest club match in Asian football takes place as the 299th Kolkatta derby between Mohun Bagan and East Bengal is played at the Salt Lake Stadium.

Big rivalry, lots of hot weather and curry and much more sweets. Attendances upto 20,000 in this match (avg I league attendance is around 2000), but a lot of history (Mohun Bagan founded in 1889 and East Bengal 1920) and only two clubs dominated Indian football for many years.

I need Opera as well. Then I can send a proper application to become Oxford's English Literature Head of Department.:D
