It was as in the box as De Marcos was onside when Bilbao went 2-1 up, so all's fair in love and war.

The second goal was top drawer, although de Marcos was suspiciously close to offside there and I would have been gutted but not upset if they'd given it. de Gea played a really good game despite conceding 3, Hernández was a bit too profligate (wasted a great chance by taking about 5 touches when a maximum of 2 would have done, and missed Rooney entirely with a pass because he was too busy trying to induce San José to foul him), Rooney started and finished well but had a spell of brain-freeze in the middle of the game, and Rafael I'm not convinced should be at this level. Every time I see him he's getting sent off, doing something that should get him sent off but doesn't, or falling asleep at the wheel. de Gea has every right to be furious at him for that third goal as Muniaín ran in from way behind Rafael to finish that off.

Also, the United players were throwing a hissy fit about that third goal, but considering it was Evra's choice to be an idiot and play the ball without his boot on, the Athletic players were under no obligation, moral or otherwise, to give the ball back.

Athletic Bilbao to win the Europa League would be so amazing, I watched the summary provided by the Dutch television with awe. Great match and very impressive play by Bilbao.

Congrats, LS. A well deserved win, one which I'm sure surprised the English far more than it did regular La Liga watchers. Athletic is a very decent side, plays good football, and has a very good and smart manager. Well know Dutch ex-manager Aad de Mos, talking in the studio, was highly complimentary about Bielsa, whom he knows personally.

I' m absolutely delighted with this result, as all Ajax fans are. Ajax fans were even more delighted last night when O.Lyon went out!

Not a word here about Messi achieving yet another record? Tsk, tsk. The word 'phenomenon' was invented for this lad, without doubt the best player I have ever seen.

It's Milan, actually, not Milano [Milano is city, Milan is the team, just like it's Genoa, even if the city is Genova].

Anyway, on the subject of Athletic game [I know, 3 days late] - I was impressed. Even though I've seen them already this year, and I know Bielsa [great, great coach] enough to know that's the way his teams play. But they kicked United's *** so hard it was really impressive. I'm happy that whole Europe got to see Athletic's great players [lot of people knew about Muniain and Javi Martinez already, but Itturaspe, Iraola, Herrera, De Marcos are also great].
