Guillem Balague in AS is saying Pellegrini to Man City is a done deal for next season. There was bets flying on this all day and I know he was 1/4 a few hours ago to make the move. Interesting that it happens now as it brings back memories of Hughes getting the boot on the day City were playing Hull at home. All this the day before an FA Cup final against Wigan and if they were to win tomorrow Mancini would have won a trophy in each of the full seasons he was there.

I like Pellegrini and loved his Villarreal sides which played splendid football with Riquelme, Senna, Cani, Forlan, Cazorla, Rossi etc. and I would like to see him try and enforce this policy here. I think the appointment and if true, has mainly been done on the recommendation of Beguiristan who told Mancini earlier in the season that he wanted him to play 4-3-3 as they also wanted to introduce a style of play in the reserve and youth set-up leading all the was up to the first team with an identical formation. Mancini was playing more with 3 at the back earlier in the season and at times this wasn't working with Ajax away being a prime example(Richards criticised the system then). Mancini also didn't help himself either as he criticised the transfer dealings of the club last summer and in some ways he has a cheek considering how much he was backed in previous transfer windows. I couldn't see the owners being happy with this as Mancini was obviously trying to deflect from his own failure and deficiencies and put it on to the likes of Brian Marwood in the hierarchy of the club and who he was in disagreement back then.

Pellegrini should have no problem getting his ideas across as he speaks perfect English and he is a manager I always wanted to see in England. Even taking his Real Madrid experience he ran Barcelona close in his one season there which was a record points total for them in La Liga at the time. Moving on to Malaga he has held the club together even though the club has sold some of it's best players in the form of Cazorla, Monreal, and Rondon with the money mainly being used to pay wages which came about from the owner investing huge sums on transfers only than later to pull the plug and stop all this shortly afterwards. Good appointment and interesting to see how he does if he arrives in the Premier League in the end.

Riquelme was my favorite player back then. He was best in the world at that time imo. Best shot taker, fk taker and passer of the ball though **** at running.

I remember i really hated that manager, perkerman i think was the name, when he took of both crespo and riquelme in the quater final of the world cup and they lost on pens.

Strange too how Riquelme never made it at Barcelona. They did loan him out at first to Villarreal and I remember watching him against Celtic in the UEFA Cup in 2004 and he ran the show and had a great season that year. Nevertheless Barcelona never recalled him and I always found that baffling at the time and so Villarreal made it permanent then.

The Pekerman's decisions were against Germany which were ridiculous ones. Even before the World Cup he made another error leaving out Zanetti from the squad for the inclusion of the useless Lionel Scaloni who was at West Ham at the time. Pekerman only got that job due to his success with the youth teams with Argentina and managed some of the senior players at the time in their younger days. I remember Pekerman at the U-20 World Cup in the 90's only because they played Ireland at the time where they beat them and went on to win the competition. Brian Kerr was manager of the Irish team back them and who ironically went on like Pekerman to manage the senior team. Damien Duff, Robbie Keane and Richard Dunne played that day if memory serves me right. And just recently a few months back I was watching a friendly live between Brazil and Colombia in the US and I was surprised to see Pekerman is managing Colombia now.

Mancini is a joke. I know the City fans love him (they always sing his name) but he is a coward, plays with three defensive midfielders sometimes for example, while he can sign the players he wants. But no, according to him they lost the Premier League because they didn't sign Van Persie   Same manager who signed Tevez, Aguero, Dzeko and Balotelli. A shame.

Well done to Wigan. Absolutely delighted for them and especially Martinez who I have always admired when he first started out in management at Swansea and for the policy which he wants to play the game in. He is a man who you never really see making excuses for defeats or slagging off referees and even don't see him getting embroiled in rows with opposing managers. Many a manager could learn from him in all this and it's refreshing to see a guy like that succeed in the game. Mark my word, a future top 4 club manager in the making.

As for the game, City looked slack, stale and short on ideas with Wigan being much hungrier all over the pitch. McManaman gave Clichy a torrid time and not one of City's front six hit anywhere near the performance that their ability suggests. Barry had a nightmare and was slow and laboured in possession and it beggars belief how he stayed on the pitch for so long. James McCarthy is an excellent player for Wigan and he's another out of Wigan who I could easily see play for one of the big clubs in England. He has a great engine and is very intelligent with his passing as he knows when to play it short and then to go long when it's on and needs be.

City's summer will be very interesting now as it looks certain that Mancini is on his way out with Pellegrini coming in. His policy is the polar opposite of Mancini's when you look at the way his Villarreal side played and this is the exact one I can see him try and implementing here. If he can manage to do this, I could see City finally getting the best out of Nasri as I see this style perfectly gelling and blending in with his footballing ability. All we have to look at is guys like Riquelme, Cani, Ibagaza and Cazorla back then at Villarreal, who are similar in style and who revelled in that type of football being coached. Mancini's football is totally result orientated and while I admit there is nothing wrong with this, it sometimes is at the expense of the spectacle where the football is not easy on the eye. Hopefully this changes under Pellegrini.

Last minute winner, what a sick way to lose it. A pity it wasn't on TV.

Hopefully they bounce back and do the business on Wednesday.

Hooray!!! Anyway Arsenal got a CL ticket. This time I'm less optimistic than in other 6 or 7 cases, but new try is a new hope.
