Honestly I’m rooting for Kyrgios to win as well, partially since I like Federer more then Novak and want a youngster to taste a Grand Slam victory. On the other hand I do love a good curb stomping and domination, greatness and Novak scratches that bill too.

A youngster? Isn't he 28?

I watched the finale with my mom. She had never seen Kyrgios play before. She found it to be an... experience...

I’ve never seen so many double faults in a singe tournament, and there’s still three more rounds to play.

Casper Ruud is one win away from getting to #1. This is a player whose titles have come only in 250 level events. Let that sink in.

That's not entirely true.
Alcaraz (who just won an epic battle against Sinner) is currently ahead of him: https://live-tennis.eu/en/atp-live-ranking

So Ruud needs to win the tournament or hope Alcaraz loses in the semis to become number 1.
Maybe a bit off topic, but the rise of our local guy Sinner (he's from a village a few kms away from my hometown) has really started another Tennis boom right here, not seen since the Boris Becker days. Lots of people are now sending their kids to play Tennis.

It's a bit annoying that his name isn't Sinnet which would be Tennis backwards.

Sinner is an interesting case study - Instead of playing the Junior's and then graduating to the senior's, he actually skipped most of the juniors, and instead he played the future and challenger circuit from a young age.

Many of the biggest talents do that. I think there's very little to gain from playing juniors over futures

Ruud hitting #1 without winning the USO would be the biggest meme result in the history of tennis.

I never realised how much I need this.

Ruud just won a set from a 55 shot rally on set point in a Grand Slam semifinal.

That was something else.

So Ruud is not becoming number one unless he wins a Slam, which takes away most of the fun in him becoming number one.

A Grand Slam final where the winner is assured of getting his first Grand Slam title and become World Number 1 for the first time must be quite a rare occurrence...

Wait you think Gilles Simon is known for his slice?

I did watch it now. Maybe more balloon balls with no threat at all.

I will maintain that the Ruud-Khachanov rally was much more high-quality (I don't know if you watched it?).

The Simon-Monfils is a meme point. I wasn't serious. My other point was that Simon is quite very known for basically never slicing.

There's still the fact that Holger Rune was bitching that Ruud wasn't a real top 10 player earlier this season, so that's why it would be funny.

I like both players, overall I think Alcaraz will have a vastly superior career so I wouldn't mind Ruud grabbing his chance now it's arisen.
